Title: How do you restore shine on dull carbon fiber front fender? Post by: bluesman77 on March 10, 2009, 01:15:30 PM The front portion of my fender, where it is exposed to the sun, has lost its shine. :'( Is there any clear coating in a rattle can that would be approprite for restoring the shine?

Not an expert but I'd bet the process probably involves mild wetsands with finer and finer grit paper to remove imperfections and then proceeding with new clear coat with more sanding in between eatch layer of clear.. Again, i'm no expert..but it seems like all paint jobs require huge amounts of sanding... Title: Re: How do you restore shine on dull carbon fiber front fender? Post by: gage on March 10, 2009, 01:50:58 PM I'm no expert either but I did do a couple pieces from my bike recently.
They were slightly faded but still had clear on them - I'll say they had lost their luster but were not brown or anything like that. I sanded them lightly with a red scotchbrite pad and then brought them to auto body shop down the block from my house. They then cleared them for me. They charged me $25 bucks for materials and time. I had them do my engine covers and belly pan. They came out nice - But there is no telling how long the finish will last - That said I expect it will last a long time. Post by: erkishhorde on March 11, 2009, 08:35:20 AM From what I've read, the carbon fiber loosing it's shine is UV damage to the clear coat. So to restore it you have to remove the old, damaged clear coat and then re-clear coat it. This involves wet sanding and choosing a good clear.
