Title: Completed my move, updated bike pics
Post by: junior varsity on March 12, 2009, 12:35:13 PM
I've done the last thing to complete my move from Tennessee to Dallas, TX: Bringing the Motorcycle to its new home. It got a new clutch cover welcome present, and will soon enough visit the dealership for a once-over and oil change. I'm desperately needing new tires as well, but that must wait till the wallet recovers from moving. Here's pics of the bike in its current form.  [thumbsup]

Nice looking bike.  I really like the "Ducati" on the tank (and on the fender).

Like the belly pan, though I'm not usually a fan of those. Who makes it?

That is the Red Racing piece, which I mailed to Brad Diez @ Speedzone Paint & Bodyworks to paint to match the Tank and Fender he did for me. The paint job was my idea and within the month of getting the bike put back together, lo and behold, Ducati unveils the SportClassic lineup, complete with my paint job. At least it shows my idea wasn't too oddball.

The badge on the seat cowl is from one of the single cylinder bevel drive Duc's, I believe it was the seat badge. I got mine from BevelHeaven.

The cam belt pulleys are VeeTwo, and the Penske Reservoir connects to a Penske 8983, from Traxxion Dynamics, but you can't really see the shock, since it is covered by a shock-sock I put on when I decided to remove the rear-hugger. The best modification I have ever made can't be see, since it is under the tank: DynaCoils. It'd be my first change if I ever bought another older duc.

Here's how I decided I'd "chart" my progress over time: http://atomemphis.blogspot.com/ (http://atomemphis.blogspot.com/)

beautiful.

have you looked into rerunning the oil cooler line to show off those covers better?

I have, I think that's a great idea too - I'd like to upgrade the oil lines and reroute them around the other side of the bike. Maybe I'll get some spare pennies to do that in the near future, but "have-to's" are cropping up soon, like new tires.

That is just how a Monster should look  [thumbsup]
Beauty on every little detail.
The paint job , the timing belt cover, oil cooler cover, clutch,  fluid containers...all of it  [bow_down]
And the pipes are just plain sexy...
Respect !

(Even 300 bucks on that timing belt cover is INSANE I need to have one too.... now  [beer] )

I know! I shudder to think how much I've "invested" over the year on these little dress up parts here and there.

I certainly appreciate all the compliments. I think my goal was to make it still look like it could've come from the factory this way to a person who's not familiar with Ducati's, but with touches that set it apart from the same bike rolling off the dealership floor.

I have never understood why the bikes don't come with something besides the pee-cups from the factory. I understand that they work (obviously) and are cheap and easy to replace should you crash and break one, but I just don't like the white-ish plastic, even if a person dresses up the caps.

And I got some of the Rizoma parts before the prices in the US went up, so I lucked out! I've been contemplating switching back to Rizoma mirrors from the CRG's, but the cost is high, as are accompanying bar ends. My Radial Brembo master cylinders have no mount holes for mirrors (a drawback of track application parts).

GREAT lookin' BIKE !!! I love the old DSSA's :) especially 1999's ;)

Questions on the "belly pan"  I belive it to be this one:

CORRECT ?

How was the fit and finish ? did it have to be trimmed to fit ? Mounting hardware / instructions included ?

THANKS !

Not very well pictured in those shots is the Under-Triple mounted Ohlins Damper. I was kind of a non-believer in steering dampers, but the feeling of the bike is generally more 'settled' now.

Here's a few shots (with a really dirty under-lower-triple area, ha):

That's the one. You have to drill your own holes in it for the mounting screws (it gives you a spot to do so) and that makes sure it mounts up right for your bike. That and a little trimming of the underside for the header pipe, and it was good to go. I shipped it off to the painter and when it got back I bolted it right up.

It comes with the mounting brackets, but if yours for some reason should not, they are available from Motowheels or MonsterParts

Love the bike  [thumbsup], it looks amazing

Is that a powder coat on the clutch casing?

No, the motor came with dark casing (and belt covers) on this bike for some reason. I've not been really keen on them, and wanted them powdered to match the rizoma belt covers/clutch cover, and on the alternator side, similarly powdercoated to match the billet sprocket & alternator covers.

Here's an old pic I dug up, where I trailered it home from Ohio and its previous owner. (Feel free to ignore worlds ugliest dirtbike trailer which did work flawlessly):
