One more reason to wear ear plugs when you ride.

Aside from saving your hearing, it'll help keep this from happening.

Which will in turn help keep you from sharing details like this.

Earplugs. Everyone wins.

I'm sure!

That would be a conductive hearing loss due to impacted earwax..not uncommon.

I doubt that amount would cause a significant hearing loss though.

I'd go to your family doctor and have the nurse clean your ears thoroughly.  It actually feels good when they use the giant syringe to drain your ear.  I had this done a few years back.  I nearly sh*t my pants when I saw the plug that came out of my ear.  :o  It was the same size as a protective earplug but twice the length!!   [puke]  I should have done a pre/post hearing test on myself.  I was probably losing about 5-10dB in that ear!

I have a dual degree in SLP & Audiology.  The Audiology teacher always preached against Q-tips since they compact the cerumen in the ear canal.

The built up earwax should come out on it's own.  Kind of disgusting though when you see a big ball of dirt and wax just fall out of someone's ear onto the table.

BTW..the stories the teacher told us about what he found in pateint's ears..    [puke] [puke] [puke] [puke]

Can you pollish your tank with that wax?

When my sister was a kid she somehow scratched the inside of her ear and the blood clot looked like a raisin. The doc didn't know it was a blood clot until he pulled it out.

On topic... TMI  [puke]

Also, you're not supposed to try to clean out ear wax with a cotton swap. It tends to push the wax farther in. You're supposed to use those ear scraper thingies but you gotta be careful with those too.  [roll]

you should stick one up the nose then take a pic of what you find.  [thumbsup] (warning i dont  take responsibility if you kill yourself)

I vote this post to almost as disturbing as the chainsaw and coochie post.

+1 with having your doc clean it out. You would then use the ear scrapper to keep it clear. My wife is always disgusted with my thick ass ear wax.

it sounds better when the guy with two degrees related to the subject says it:

My med-surg instructor showed a picture of a tiny black dot on the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and had us guessing what it was.  I ended up getting it.  It was the little rubber tip from the end of a bobby pin.  Putting anything in your ear can be dangerous.

My brother came over the other day and actually brought with him a little brown ball about the size of a rabbit turd.  It was a ball of hardened ear-wax that fell out after his shower.  Gross.

A little dilute peroxide will do it without risking your tympanic membranes... and we won't have to see any more pics like this  ;D
It's a win/win situation.

yeah it's gross.  let me give the back story.

i have been having noticeably degraded hearing for the last few months, i was actually planning on seeing a doctor about it soon.  then last night the big chunk actually broke loose on its own, i was just watching tv and suddenly i could feel something weird going on in my ear.  i just stuck my pinky in there and could feel that thing.  i pulled it out with a tweezers, i was afraid a q-tip would push it back in.  i put it on a q-tip for the picture.  the other chunk i did dig out with a q-tip... sorry to all the doctors.

i believe the chunks were actually formed by earplugs, about a year ago i started using silicon ear plugs at work, which you just jam in, instead of the foam type that you roll up and let expand in place.  i think the ear plugs have been pushing the junk deeper into my ear every time i used the plugs.

I bet you had a sniff of it as well.

go on...

mainly bugs of all kinds.

One story still haunts me.  A guy at party had the stupid idea of sticking straws up his nose and in his ears. Another guy thought it would be funny to come up behind him and and slam the straws into his ears.   :-[

Wow guys... most disgusting thread ever. Congrats.

I clean my ears regularly with a Q-Tip and I've never had the problems you guys are discribing. Rotate the swab as you put it in and out instead of stabbing it in. No impaction and it pulls the wax out.

Geez, hygiene anyone?  :-X

My best friend owns a salon and they do ear candling.  They light the sucka on fire and stick it in your ear.  A few minutes later I was amazed at what came out.  I wanted to sniff it.... but didn't.
