Title: Airbox tabs (please help)
Post by: uclabiker06 on March 13, 2009, 03:00:35 PM
Hello to all...haven't been here in a while.  Recently found one of the metal clips for the air-box was on the ground in the garage (not good).  The plastic tabs that allow for the clips to clamp down the air lid where bent slightly upward!  They have been like that for a while and they where okay, but now one of them is so bent that the little tubular part of the clip doesn't want to stay when I clamp it down.

Actually I put it in place and was looking at it to see if it would stay and it POPPED like a bullet towards my neck but I'm okay  [bang]  I tried bending the tab back by putting pressure on it but no-go.  Am I going to need a new freakin air-box now ???  Anyone else have this problem ??

Okay just spoke with the local wrench and he suggested I epoxy them so thats what I'll do.  Man those tabs are so flimsy.  My mechanic said the reason they do that is because they know it will last through the warranty...makes me wonder.

I knew someone would say that on this board.  Actually I like the looks of the stock exhaust and I am happy with it ...so sue me. Although I must admit that bike in the above picture looks pretty sweet.

On a different bike I stuck those little clips back on with dabs of "Shoe Goo" also known as "Mechanics Goop"  or "Plumbers Goop" and numerous other titles, all the same stuff and very useful.  It's slightly flexible but tough and I think it sticks to plastic better than epoxy.  But epoxy may work fine too.
