Title: Good Price for a Monster 696
Post by: Areafift1 on March 14, 2009, 03:49:39 AM
Hello everyone, I'm about to make the plunge this morning and purchase a new 2009 Monster 696 with the carbon fiber Termi upgrade. The dealership is asking $11,250. Is it out of the question to make an offer of $10,000? The MSRP of the bike is $8,995 and the Termis go for around $1400.

Any advice on haggling?

Thanks!

Rik

you can get CF termis for 1200 or so, the bike is 8995 plus TTL plus sometimes a setup fee.

guess it depends where you are, how many dealers are competing and are you financing with them.

sounds like they either LOVE their stuff, or they did other things to the bike.

get more info. and what color matters too ;)

I got my 696 OTD for $9200.

If the Termis cost me $1500 (including labor) that would have put me at $10,700

OK, Thanks. This is a good start. I figure with how the economy is and the bike I've been looking at has been sitting in the showroom since the beginning of last winter I should be able to get a decent price. I will be financing and plan to put $3000 down. With any luck I hope to get the 696 at a price near $10,250 OTD. I will post my final result later today.

...and please keep the replies coming. I'll be checking my BlackBerry for your valuable comments!

No advice on the 696 but welcome to the forum. Be sure to post pics when you get it.

For every 100$ you make him lower the initial price you will pay 150$ when service time comes...
Keep your dealer happy...he may help you when you really need it.  [thumbsup]

Only if you plan on going to the same dealer for service... 8)

Another way to haggle is to ask them to include some gear and accessories.   Instead of lowering the price, get them to throw in a helmet (or something else).

Good luck! [thumbsup]

What if he gets it serviced somewhere else? Or does the servicing himself?

I'm all about getting along with the dealer and being on good terms with them... but I don't believe that's a reason to avoid negotiating your best possible deal as a consumer.

if my math is right he is asking for 2255 more than sticker. there has got to be more on that than the CF Termi or he is trying to rip someone off.

This brings to mind what happenned with my Mom. The local dealership to her wouldn't budge on the price(as per the owners direction). I lived in one state up and the dealer there was willing to go some $1,600. cheaper OTD than her dealers starting point. So she hopped on a bus and road it back. Later at a dealer function the owner asked her about it and she told him why she didn't buy the bike from him, he was hurt but came clean that he told his salesmen not to haggle. Long story short, after she was hit on her first bike and needed a replacement, the dealer was far more willing to bargain because he knew she wasn't going to just pay whatever he put on the sticker. She bought her second bike at her local dalership, it still cost a bit more but not more than the price of the trip and the goodwill of a local dealer.... besides insurance payed for the second one.

Really ??  $8999 MSRP, qouted $1400 for Termi's, tax rate is roughly 6.5% in Ohio which means $676.00 in tax, license = $30ish ??  so that adds up to $11106 which leaves $144.  for install, any freight or assembly fees.   Seems like a fair deal.

I'd have to agree with Dave on this.  $11250 with Termi's doesn't sound bad for a state with a sales tax.  As long as this is OTD, that's pretty good.

Well, I did it. After taxes and all that fun stuff I got it for $11,125 OTD plus 50% off my 600 mile maintenance. It was their only matte black version, the had 2 other red 696's. They were willing to negotiate more on the red models but I had my heart set on the black. I'll post pics when I pick it up on Tuesday.

Thanks to all of you for your input and guidance. Great forum and great people!

I was doing the math myself about a 696 with termis. for 11k u could have sprung for the 1100! just like an 1100 with termis is the same as a stock 1100s.... termis are nice but way overpriced in my opinion.

that said enjoy the craaaaap out of your bike!!

But didn't your 696 come with some bad juju you had to purge by Frisbee and soccer mom?

I prefer to think that the universe just wanted me to have more aftermarket parts.

I paid $11,637 and got a 2010 696, Termi CF pipes, $350 dollar helmet, $600 leather jacket, 14T front sprocket, tail chop, and frame sliders.  But I got 20% off of all accessories bought at the time of bike purchase, military discount, and no state tax on the bike because I'm an out of state resident stationed here.
