Title: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: junior varsity on March 14, 2009, 01:51:17 PM I'm looking to get my wheels powdercoated black. I'm tired of cleaning them.
My quote from AMS was between 500-700 depending on whether I showed up with wheels or with them still attached to bike/tires. I was hoping somebody has had this or similar work done and could recommend a shop, etc. Lemme know. Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: Giannis on March 14, 2009, 08:57:38 PM You have to remove the bearings a lot of work if you havent done it before..., you will need a heat gun (not hair dryer) or a bearing removal tool...
AMS powdercoats at TOPCOAT they are a bit step but they do great work... i powdercoated a lot of wheels in the past, last time i did something was like $150 but it's been a couple years... topcoat could be close to $300 but that's if you take the wheels bare without bearings... Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: bryant8 on March 15, 2009, 03:46:03 PM IIRC there may have been an issue with a13bpilot's 900SS wheels when they were PC'd. I don't recall the thread title, but worth a note if you want your wheels done over at custompowdercoating.com
I don't have FHE with them Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: Giannis on March 16, 2009, 01:38:04 AM IIRC there may have been an issue with a13bpilot's 900SS wheels when they were PC'd. Mag Shouldnt powdercoated.. at least more than one time from the factory. the material will weaken.. Not good! Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: ♣ McKraut ♣ on March 16, 2009, 03:45:34 AM they were old marchesini's... stamped brembo but labled marchesini. i think they were actually from a different (older) bike. i know that the bearings were super tight when i installed them after getting them powdercoated, so i'm not sure what the deal was there.
Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: ♣ McKraut ♣ on March 16, 2009, 09:55:15 AM no, they did do that...there wasn't any powdercoating where the bearings are inserted. i meant the "normal" tightness....just what you would expect with installing bearings. as it was i had to put them in the freezer for a little bit before attempting to put them in the wheel.
Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: Samsonite on March 23, 2009, 05:07:18 PM So, what ever happened with Jason's wheels?
Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: Duc L'Smart on March 31, 2009, 02:49:45 AM So, what ever happened with Jason's wheels? Whatever happened t Jason's bike? Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: a13bpilot on March 31, 2009, 04:27:06 AM Whatever happened t Jason's bike? Jason's engine has a fresh coat is silver paint. I should be able to shoot the frame and wheels today. Should be back on the road in another 6-8 years ( at present rate). ;D The rear wheel on the SS spun the bearing on the left side which leads to 5 spoke Marchesini's. Make sure the people doing th PC know what they are doing! Title: Re: DFW Powdercoating? Post by: Duc L'Smart on March 31, 2009, 05:00:30 AM Make sure the people doing th PC know what they are doing! Good advice... Looking forward to seeing you back on 2 wheels [thumbsup] |
