Curious to see the percentage of left-handed people who frequent the DMF. More than 10% would be abnormally high.

what about ambidextrous?
without that as an option, i am forced to go with boobies
(i write with my right hand, everything else i can do right or left handed)
+1, i can write with both legibly. the right is obviously faster, but i do a lot of things left handed. shooting, baseball, cant throw with my left for the life of it though) i also fight southpaw.
but im also dyslexic and have ADHD amoung other disorders that arent real. :)

Did you not read the poll? "Which hand do you primarily write with?"
Southpaw here.
Regarding writing:
I am aware that most people do plenty of things "the wrong way," so I figured I would draw the line at the hand you draw lines with.
Left-handed people tend to do a lot of things right-handed (most lefties are heavily ambidextrous because the world is so righty-friendly), but few right-handed people write with their left hand and vice versa (and when they do it is usually because of injury or being forced to do things a certain way by parents or teachers).
I probably should have asked "do you consider yourself a righty or lefty?" If I had an ambidextrous option, everyone would pick it. People that are born ambidextrous are extremely rare. Boobies for you. [cheeky]
I am illiterate - 3 (13.6%)
are lefties more likely to answer polls about handedness on motorcycle forums? We need a study.
boobies.

i did read it.............but which hand you write with is not an accurate description of your "handedness" to me. although i write right handed, i do everything else with whichever hand is handy.
a big exception to this is shooting. i cant shoot right handed to save my life. 100 % lefty there.
thus my question,
and my answer to the poll [thumbsup]
I'm generally left handed, but I always said I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous. ;D

Maybe you're right-handed and, for you, shooting left-handed IS shooting right-handed.
Take this for example: I'm left-handed, and I play guitar "right-handed." My reason for doing this is that my left hand does all the intricate work. I have a great deal of trouble imagining how most right-handed people choose to play this way.
Now, with a rifle, your right arm is stronger and supports the bulk of the weight, while aiming with fine motor control. All your left hand has to do is squeeze the trigger (gee, that takes a lot of skill!). This could still apply to pistols unless you shoot them one-handed... it all depends on what's more important to you while holding an object.
not that i play guitar, but when i mess with one, it feels natural to pluck with the fingers of my left hand.
as for the shooting.....i think its more about dominant eye than which hand
Herm beat me to it.
Shooting left or right handed has nothing to do with which hand is doing what. It's about putting the gun on the side of your body that puts the sights in line with the eye you can aim with.
Except for one guy I've gone hunting with a couple of times. He shoots right-handed but aims with his left eye. make the beast with two backsing weird. He's an amazing shot though. It blows my mind.
I write with left hand, everything else is with the right hand. I target shoot, shoot right handed , but am left eye dominant.
I can write with the right hand and it is neater, but does not feel right.
i am righthanded when it comes to writing, but there are a few things i can do better with my left. i am mechanically inclined (at least i think i am) and theres some things you just cant do with your right hand.

guess im i illiterate [laugh] [bang].
I'm a righty, as to shooting, I have to shoot with both eyes open, I can close my left eye when using iron sights but with a scope I will periodically lose the crosshairs unless I open both eyes
I write, shoot (hockey), swing (golf) all Left. I could switch-shoot in paintball pretty good...
but that left handed mouse is the dumbest thing ever.
"Left handedness is a sign of the devil!"
I heard that once from an older person. I always think of it when left and right handed is discussed. It's like a song stuck in your head, something you can't forget. Now I hope I've passed this on to all of you. ;D
one thing i have always found interesting is that lefties have much neater hand writing than the right handed.....i suppose it is some kind of over compensation.
another personal experience is that a disproportionate number of the most capable people i know are left handed.

I, too, was forced to go with boobies. In school, I was smacked on the palm with a ruler every time I picked up the pencil with my left hand, so I learned to write with my right. I still pick up a pen with my left occasionally and am halfway into a word before I remember I don't write with that hand. I hold the pencil like a lefty regardless of which hand I write with.
The Right one of course ;D
after breaking my right arm a few times as a kid i learened to do dam near everything with my left.
i havne't written lefty in a very long time, but i tend to flip flop everything i do. i'm a better shot fromt eh right side, but i can still hit the borad side of a barn from the left.
i'm severly right leg dominant though. even though i board goofy i feel like a tard when trying to kick with my left leg playing soccer. i'm seriously lucky if i can get any power on the ball.
I only write lefty. All other tasks are done right-handed, even hitting a baseball ~

my handwriting is horrible as well.... and I have noticed that almost half of the machinists here are lefties [thumbsup]

fixed. all the lefty people i can think of right off hand are a bit on the crazy side.
I write right handed, but do many other things lefty.
The first time I sat down to a drumset I wanted to switch it over to lefty (high hat on the right side instead of the left, which is typical). My instructor told me to learn to play right handed since 99% of drumsets are arranged that way...and I'd never be able to play on someone elses set if I learned lefty. Makes sense.
I wonder if I can play the drums because I'm ambidextreous, or if I'm ambidextrious because I learned to play the drums. ??? Chicken or the egg I guess.

I fig'd that had to do w/my goalie-ness.
whoa! make the beast with two backsin' tangent here, but follow me!
hockey goalies, by default=left shooters
hockey goalies='crazy' or 'weirdo' or 'anything else not conforming to a social norm'
you may be on to something, here! [bacon]

again with the bacon everywhere... ugh. (im anti bacon)
to continue your tangent, i can say that since leftys use a different part of the brain for most everything than rightys, that is what causes the craziness. the whole left brain/right brain argument.
it makes sense to me and thats all that matters.

if youre talking about me then youre wrong... im a very big righty.
Left handed. Not right handed for any other uses. My handwriting sucks with my left hand and looks like 4 year old scribble with my right. Can't bat right handed. Had to learn to shoot right handed to qualify. But, otherwise, nada. I don't play hockey. I throw with my left. I fight with my left.
All you closet "wannabe-righties" make me sick....

I figured if less than 10% didn't pick boobies that would be abnormal.
with boobies I'm ambidextrous.........everything else righty all the way. ;D
