When I lived in Ireland, one of my Irish roommates referred to me as:
Adolf Cromwell
Scotch(1/2), German(1/4), and Danish(1/4)...which means I love good beer and bad food.
Grabbing some corned beef and cabbage for lunch and then hitting up the pub down the street after work for the consumin' o' the beer.
The wife is making corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight. I'll he eating that while drinking a nice bottled Guiness...
Is Corned Beef and Cabbage really a traditional irish meal?
I am thinking not.
When I lived there for 3.5 months, never once saw this meal or heard of anyone eating/making it.
Go with a Shepherd's Pie [thumbsup]
It's a traditional Irish-American meal, not necessarily an Irish meal...

There ya go....not that wikipedia is the ultimate authority.
Saint Patrick's Day
The consumption of corned beef is associated with Saint Patrick's Day, when many Irish Americans eat a traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage. According to the History Channel, while cabbage is a traditional food item for Irish-Americans, corned beef is not consumed in Ireland - it was originally used as a substitute for bacon by Irish American immigrants in the late 1800s. [2] Irish immigrants living in New York City's Lower East Side sought an equivalent in taste and texture to their traditional Irish bacon, and learned about this cheaper alternative to bacon from their Jewish neighbors. A similar dish is the New England boiled dinner, consisting of corned beef, cabbage, and root vegetables such as carrots, turnips, and potatoes, which is popular in New England and parts of Atlantic Canada.
As St. Patrick's Day occurs annually during Lent, the corned beef tradition caused controversy among American Catholic dioceses in 2000 and 2006, when the holiday fell on a Friday. Catholic custom dictates that no meat be consumed on any Friday during Lent, but some bishops granted dispensations to their dioceses for eating corned beef on St. Patrick's Day.[3] This rare occurrence will next happen on Friday in 2017

I did however, in deference to my Irish brethren, drink a beer.
Upon finishing said beer...
I promptly switched to Vodka.
Happy St Patty's Day. ;D
Stewart and Chapman my great Grandparents are Irish in my family. St. Patrick's Day has been excuse enough to imbibe Guinness and Irish Whiskey with great enthusiasm for most of my so called "adult" life. But I too was blessed with an Irish liver and have had to get new hobbies.
I do love the Irish and Irish Women in particular - for sure. There's this one Naomi Kelly at work. Wow! shes hot. [bow_down] [bow_down]
The Irish put in their constitution a few years back how they recognize the Irish diaspora around the world - about 80,000,000 of em.
We're all Irish today.

I'm not Irish (at least none I claim). I spent this St. Paddy's day having chicken patties for lunch and turkey for dinner. They did add green food coloring to the ice cream. But, I didn't have any. No alcohol either.

Somehow.. I doubt that St. Pats is quite the event in Japan as it is here.
- How's it been 'Pokie?
Last year, St. Patty's day came and went without incident. There's an irish bar outside the gate. And, by Irish I mean they have painted clovers, green awnings, and serve Guinness... served by Phillipino and Japanese women. But, it's like that every day. I didn't partake. I will wait until I get back to the states.
Otherwise, it's been good. I did find an Irish bar in Thailand.

Run by Sean Murphy?
I had a few beers tonight, and like I said earlier, Guiness with corned beef and cabbage. Then I had a SA Honey Porter and a SA Scotch Ale...
