I am curious, I see a number of bikes running around with Wave brake rotors, and while I love the look, do they offer any real benefit? or is it purely cosmetic?
I would like to hear any feedback, good or bad, or if anyone has had any experience with them.
I was going to go for the full Goldline upgrade for the front of my S2R 800, but since I changed to the Sintered pads about 6 months ago, I have been very happy and now find I have enough braking power for my needs, but when it comes time to replace my rotors, I am limited in choice with aftermarket rotors (as in, my choice's are very limited), I have now found that JT braking make a Wave style rotor for the S2R 800, I like the look, but do they make any difference, or is it just a big ole load of crap?
Thanks.
No experience w/ the front, but I replaced the stock rear with a Braking wave (basically same same as Galfer). It's lighter and stops as well or better than what was in there previously- though that was the stock rotor and pads, so it was a low bar to aim for.
For fronts, usually waves are a bit lighter, which is always good. But being super dooper better than rounds? Eh I doubt there's any huge difference when you get down to brass tacks. If there was some vast superiority to wave rotors, that's all you would see. But there's still a lot of round rotors in the world. All that being said, they do look cool. So when it time for new front rotors on my bike, I plan on waves.
But I'm not expert on this one. Someone with more real knowledge will chime in.
Your money is much better spent on new calipers. Stick to your original plan. It was much better than replacing your rotors. Any changes in braking you will have wit new rotors will be insignificant in comparison a caliper upgrade (even with matching crappy/used oem rotors)
Done waste your money. - Just my 2 cents..
after talking to the supplier, they made some mistakes and the wrong Discs were advertised in there manual, they only make the solid disc, not the floating disc style as on the bike from factory, plus the offset is different.
Oh well, no loss, will stick with the original plan of the goldline upgrade [thumbsup]
You're doing the right thing.. Seriously once your get your caliper upgrade post back. I guarantee you'll be like :o. You'll wonder how you managed with your old ones for all that time..
Just be careful the first time you use them..
