What racing? The only races are the AMA show at Fontana. I'd concentrate on the BBQ and test rides. They should have had this next weekend so they could show the Valencia World SBK races. [thumbsup]

1098R, Marty's totalled (less than 200 miles)
999s, Scott's....waiting to see
FJR 1300, Jim's totalled (my friend in the market for a Duc)
Motard, rim scratched not sure if more was wrong at the time

Truck going eastbound on Industrial made a u-turn in front of a Sebring and plowed his side. Sebring skidded almost 200 feet into parked bikes at AMS possibly injuring two people. One lady, first day in Texas (moved from Tuczon) was hurt and carted in an ambulance and another guy was limping but refused treatment.  At least three other people jumped out of the way just-in-time.

I was at the Scooter rally with Ms. E, two friends on the other cruiser and Rich when I got the call so Rich, myself and Ms. E. went there (Jim was pretty upset).......what a MESS! I've always known that location was dangerous and today proves it. I hope everyone is alright. Rich will post pics later as he had the camera and took pics.

Glad to hear nobody was severely injured.  I hope the respective insurance companies treat these riders right.  I'd like to hear some feedback on these claims.

Dax - sounds like you'll be in Ducati searching heaven with the loss of the FJR.

And now a moment of silence for the loss of our dear purple friend.  :'(

Just hope the car driver had insurance. In this town... probably not. :P Although, Maria and others have benefitted in their coverage by being hit by uninsured low lifes. Their policies kicked in extra $$$ and coverage if hit my said low lifes. Still doesn't make it right. Makes me glad I spent the whole day busting my a@@ doing spring yard work at home instead of checking out AMS...  Sorry for those who got hurt and lost expensive bikes. Reminds me of the nightmare at the Dubliner when the drunk crashed into it being chased be the cops. Could have been a $100K worth of bikes out front when that happened. Luckily not.

Oh my,

I just got back from the mountains and picked up my Bike from Stuart's! We both talked about not being able to go today. My yellow would have been in the mess if I got back a day earlier as planned.

I wonder if Marty can buy my 07 Ron Fellows now with the insurance money ;-). Last weekend he saw it for the first time and commented if he hand'nt just purchased the 1098R my Vette would be in his garage.

We will be ridding out to the events tomorrow.

WOW!!!  :o What a mess. I'd be heart broken to see all those bikes on the ground like that. I was actually going to go to that demo day, but my wife made me go to a bday party with her for my son's friend. I guess I'm glad to have missed it.

I'm glad nobody got too hurt.

OH....those poor bikes.... [roll]

I needed to buy a new arai helmet for g/f so we drove together and arrived around 5.10pm.. I saw the 1098R being loaded up on the truck and the FJZ parked in front of the door... Scott's bike was at the back of the repair shop and seemed "somewhat" easily fixable... I pray that the young lady is fine and hope AMS recovers from this..

I ended up meeting Dax later in the evening and we both agreed that they really need to put some poles or something like that in the front of the shop, it's pretty insane what happened.... In any case, I'm glad I didn't end up going with my cigar buddies there as we would have certainly been right in the middle of all this smoking our cigars...

Saw the pics in the other forum, no words to describe the sentiment...!

Am i alone in thinking that the penalty for driving without without insurance should be equally as severe as driving drunk?  These uninsured pricks get my blood boiling.  If you can't afford insurance take the f*cking bus.

first of all they should raise the $25K State limit to $100/300K..

second of all imho if you're uninsured and cause an accident you should be publicly executed and broadcasted in PPV with the proceeds going to the victim/victim's family!!

Man, that just plain sucks.  Alan and I left an hour before this happened; our bikes were parked right in that area.  In fact, Alan rode that white Multistrada in the middle that somehow avoided the caranage.

There were so many people miling around their bikes - at least twenty parked all the way down Industrial... Thank God this wasn't worse.  Makes me sick even thinking about it.

just a guess, but he's probably referring more to the "area" that AMS is located in...  industrial blvd. is not exactly a choice place to be cruising along or hanging out by... just a guess here but i'm thinking the percentage of uninsured/under-insured is considerable higher in that stretch.  it's not exactly uptown.

though, while we're talking about this...whenever i'm at AMS and somebody gets ready to take off on a bike...and they have to do that walk backwards out into industrial blvd., with cars flying by at 60+...i tend to hold my breath for a second, hoping that i'm not about to see someone get slammed with a car ten feet in front of me.  it's definitely not an optimal setup safety-wise; what seems to happen a lot is cars/trucks parked to the south of the bikes obstruct the view of the bikes from cars traveling northbound on industrial; giving both parties little reaction time.  just my 2cp

This may end up taking awhile to sort out with the insurance - the driver of the truck who started it isn't the one on the policy - truck is insured but Fernando (the driver) isn't - wish i could have recorded the conversation with the claims person - was actually kind of funny trying to explain the situation - it's been 20 minutes on the phone already and I'm just getting to my bike info

Having spent a good portion of my life working at the Crowley Courthouse I can indeed testify to the bad neighborhood and bad drivers. Staying late on weeknights and working weekends definitely deserved combat pay.

I agree with Rich on the location and the number of "potential" uninsured drivers there.  Either way they have NO damn business driving 60mph down that stretch.  I also wish Jeff would pave this parking in front of the store.  Every time I go I pick up no less than two to three nails along with numerous bolts, plus driving out on that pebble sucks too when you're behind somebody whose wheel slips and sprays you.................you know who you are. >:(

I love the store setup and everyone there but we need parking lot poles, like the ones they use on Bourbon to shut down the street, and a HUGE flashing yellow light 100 feet before AMS.  just saying.

Title: Re: AMS Demo Day Part Deux
Post by: bryant8 on March 23, 2009, 02:52:57 PM
Parking lot poles wouldn't be wise.  It'd eat up parking spots for customers coming in cars (i.e. new buyers) and for those needing space to load trailers/trucks.  Plus for those that park their bikes there would have to dodge those while backing out into traffic.

I know Jeff wanted to put up a bigger AMS sign, but due to some city issues with that electricity pole he can't.  So the parking poles might not even be within their options

Just my $0.02

working.......you mean serving time!!

i dont think there is a whole lot jeff can do about parking, etc. around there. probably the smartest thing would be for us to park across the street in that lot or talk them into doing more of their stuff in alvarado. maybe not race watches but at least demo's. it much funner to shoot down 917 to 2738. go down a ways then turn around and come back. is the young lady going to be fine or is the hospital just saying that because if she has to have some form of back surgery they never have to stop having them.

Title: Re: AMS Demo Day Part Deux
Post by: Cher on March 24, 2009, 05:02:42 AM

I think Chris' idea of hosting race watch parties and demo rides at AMS-Alvarado is an excellent short term solution.  A Saturday ride out to Alvarado raises the blood pressure a lot less than the Cuisine Art blender that is downtown on any given day.

But long-term, an encouraging sign for the future of AMS-Dallas is just to their North at the corner of Market Center Blvd and Oak Lawn Avenue.  Has anyone else noticed the high-end, three story condo complex under construction on the southeast corner of that intersection?  Looks like it should be open by this Fall.

That area where AMS is now is prime property for the urban revitalization/reclamation that has been going on down there for quite a while.  The Trinity River project will help speed things along too.  So I imagine over the next 5 or six years those vacant buildings and, how shall I say... less than desirable businesses will be gone.

This speculation is obviously no solace for everyone involved in Saturday's melee - nor is it intended to be (see my previous post for that) -  but big changes should be sweeping through that downtown area soon.  In the meantime, AMS-Alvarado for group events could be better utilized.

Just got off the phone with the truck's insurance company - not the driver of the truck but the company that insured the truck - they haven't accepted liability yet - turns out the drive may not have been covered because the owner of the truck had a restricted named driver policy - this is turning into a f'ing nightmare and I can't get anybody to tell me how much I'm going to get for my bike.

Huh? Who's not accepting responsibility?!?

The truck was liable for making an unsafe turn, & the car seems liable for traveling at an unsafe speed. Those are the only people who would have any liability...

according to the latest report, the driver of the truck was not the insured so the insurance company is trying to say they are not going to pay.  don't quote me on this but it looks like claims will have to be made on their own bike insurance and then the respective company will pursue the idiots in the cars.

The driver of the truck is not insured - the truck is insured - something to do with where the driver resides and whether he was  authorized to be driving the truck - I'm letting my insurance company sort it out - considering the policy expired the day after the accident they are most likely looking for any way out - by the way its Untied Auto - stay away from them!

I'll have to get some pics posted here soon - brand new 2006 (OK it did have 19 miles on it) - found it in Houston - verified their story about a VERY rich man who bought it for either his wife or for her to ride with hinm and she didn't like it.  When I took it for a test ride the dealer was right up the street where it was originally purchased so why not stop in and ask right?  They said the guy came in with a driver and a Rolls - had it delivered to his ranch with 3 climate controlled ponds out front with different types of fish in them - one is kept at like 38 degrees or something with some Alaskan fish swimming (imagine the cost of keeping a pond at 38 degrees in Houston in the summer!)  He has a garage (more like a glass showroom for his toys - Lambo's, ferrari's, etc.) so the Duc was sitting for 2 1/2 years - has a battery tender already wired and a heated clothing BMW (according to muskrat) port on it. So far so good - right fairing is cracked (1/2 inch) from being tightened down to much I think other than that it's perfect. Handles great - very much lighter than the FJR but a bit more agressive seating position than the Feejer - not sure if this will be the right 2-up bike for me - much easier to handle with a passenger but not sure how comfortable for long distances - I think it's more comparable to a VFR with hard bags than say a ST1300/FJR/Concours type ride. Looking for exhaust suggestions (don't want to spend the $$ for a full Termi) smoked shield - GIVI trunk (I think Scotty has one at AMS) and other farkle ideas. Probably will head down to AMS this Sat (if the weather is OK) AND park across the street.

Cool story Jim.  I purchased mine under very similar circumstances.  A wealthy gentleman bought the motorcycle for his wife and she just wasn't into the riding thing.  I bought the bike 9 months ago (2002 Monster 900) with 1200 miles on the odometer.  It was stored in a climate controlled garage along with his other 5 bikes (A few Ducatis and BMWs) and next to a Panoz and several top dollar luxury cars.

Congrats on the purchase and I hope your insurance dilemma straightens itself out.  I'm not sure if Mivv (an Italian exhaust manufacturer) makes a system for the ST3, but if they do i recommend it.  Very pleased with my titanium slip-ons.  Can't find many quality titanium pipes for $650 new.  [thumbsup]  You'll hear em soon.

+1 for muskrat-method screen darkening.  If you won't be looking through it, rattle-can that thing.  Those aftermarket smoke screens are ridiculously overpriced.
