"Good Afternoon,
Many of you may have seen an increase in your pay this period. The Stimulus Plan set by the President lowered the Federal Tax brackets for any employee making under $150 K. This went in affect March 5, 2009.
Thank you,
Michelle

:-\
i have too many vehicles
...i guess i should register them before that goes into effect
You may, or may not, have also received a memo with regard to your withholdings. The point was that you were going to start seeing more in your check (less withholding), and if you wanted to maintain the same withholding I should submit a new W-4. After a little research, it sounds like I will still be responsible for the same amount of tax, and the end of the year, they are just going to take less out to make me feel good about it. That's bullshit.

I was just going to stay that.
It is smoke and mirrors.
Good thing I don't have anything withheld. My paycheck didn't change...
< sniff sniff >
(this smells oddly political)
But yes, my take home did increase a tad. And I fully expect to be giving it all back (and then some) in a sneaky underhanded way.
If they lowered your tax bracket, then how are you still responsible for the same amount at the end of the year? Isn't that the whole point of lowering the tax bracket...you are taxed less for the year? If you want your withholdings to remain the same, then ofcourse you would need to fill out a new W-4...and claim less dependents.

Political? We're talking about taxes.. i.e. being forcibly buggered...

I have 2, but I have nothing withheld from my paycheck because I end up getting every bit of it back anyway...
I have had ZERO taxes withheld from my paycheck for close to 3 years now...

So do you get a nice refund each spring?
Yup, I pay no taxes and still get a refund...

Must be nice.....
It has it's perks. But you have to consider the reasoning. Being in the military, I don't make a ton of money. I have 2 kids (earned income credit). 1 income family. And I own a house and can claim the mortgage interest as a deduction...

Right, I figured with the tax credit for the kids and of course a mortgage, but didn't know you have a 1950's style wife [thumbsup] (I refer to my Mom as a stereotypical 1950's woman as she was a stay at home Mom, so I mean zero disrespect to your wife or any other woman on this forum. I have the utmost respect for families that choose this lifestyle)
Yup, she'd rather stay at home and raise ours rather than let someone else. Plus, she's spent her time in the workforce, military to be precise...

That is how my Mom felt as well.
My brother and his wife have a 12wk old daughter and my sister in law is going to be a stay at home Mom as well, until they (as they want 2) are in school, so she can go back to teaching to keep the same hours, vacations, etc.
[thumbsup] on the military service
