Huh? Thats a suprise. Wonder how it will turn out. I kinda sorta like the looks but could do without the huge badge on the case side.
isn't that a moto morini?
KTM is in it as well...!!
moto morini:

Lots of styling borrowed from Ducati and MV Agusta.

And our picture shows how the new machine is likely to look.

Is there a reason that so few companies can make a naked bike without being nearly a perfect copy of the Monster? ???
What a waste! Here we have the largest builder in the world of TDI technology and all their doing is revienting the wheel to grab some market share. If I ran VW, that bike woiuld be sporting a TDI and not a L-twin mill.
geeez, 1.6 litre... is that really necessary?

Of corse not. What I think they should do if they are serious about buiding bikes is to use there considerable resources to develop a motorcycle specific TDI engine.

A diesel engine's compression ration is ~20 to 1 versus ~10 to 1 for gas. Engine braking would be huge. A slipper clutch would be required. The RPM's would be much lower. ~5-6k redline. Great idea for a cruiser, not sure if I like the idea for a sport bike. A 500cc TDI could have a massive amount of torque (think 75fp+) but still get 75+ MPG.

if thats the case then thats a good idea... but if its just a 1.6 with 125hp, thats just out of date w/ hp and displacement... you dont need a 1.6 motor to do that.

It's been done in prototype by those Thunderstar guys. It would be nice to find out if they ever plan to do anything with it. It seems all data stopped flowing about it a couple years ago.

Didn't say it couldn't be done, just that you would need to make changes to a typical gas setup.

Tons of examples out there. Would be kinda cool to pick one up if nothing more than to say I have a Diesel bike...
garbage photoshop. it's not even GOOD photoshop. i could take a dump on my keyboard with photoshop open and it would look better than that.
Mo' motorcycles is mo' better. Everyone should ride!
I would look pretty closely at a TDI moto. OR even a hybrid bike. could you imagine the torque of a hybrid bike off the line when it's running off the electric engine? :o

I've read of some Duc owners answering the question "What the hell is that [dry clutch] noise?" with the reply "it's a Diesel". [moto]

Nope, engine braking isn't a result of compression, it's caused by the vacuum that's pulled when the throttle is closed. A diesel would have LESS engine braking since it wouldn't have a throttle plate. (Hence Jake Brakes and vacuum pumps on diesels...)

Now this looks more like a Monster then the new 696!

Well, I'd hardly say "perfect"...
