Title: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: DucHead on March 21, 2009, 11:38:25 AM The brake and turn signal wiring under my seat was a mess:
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d147/pompino/DSCN2314.jpg) Plus with the new tail light, I didn't like the bracket situation back there. :-\ I bought one 3-pole- and two 2-pole weather-proof connectors (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=20703.0) from McMaster Carr, and got to work. I cut and drilled an aluminum plate to hold the resistors for the LED turn signals and wiring, ran the wiring and cut lengths as I went along to ensure proper lengths. I also fabbed and painted a new one-piece turn signal/tail light bracket. Here's how it turned out: (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d147/pompino/DSCN2328.jpg) Much neater under there!!! Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: He Man on March 21, 2009, 12:47:09 PM i think you were the one who posted the thread about modding going to far....
this is modding going to far. nice job though! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: stopintime on March 21, 2009, 01:03:17 PM Not because I say so, but because you want to ;D (I know you do) here's what you do: wash the plastic, reroute the rear light wires under the red seat latch bracket, straighten the right connector and paint the new resistor bracket. I just love tidy [thumbsup] Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: Spidey on March 21, 2009, 01:08:45 PM modding going to far. does not compute does not compute does not compute Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: geoffduc on March 21, 2009, 01:17:50 PM Nice one Dave, you are starting to take my crown away from me [bow_down]
I'm glad you posted pics as Spidey might have thought you where having us on ;) ;) [coffee] Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: needtorque on March 21, 2009, 01:22:18 PM To add to your list of mods: you need to wrap those exposed wires in plastic tubing or electrical tape. ;D

Post by: DucHead on March 21, 2009, 02:19:21 PM wash the plastic, reroute the rear light wires under the red seat latch bracket, straighten the right connector and paint the new resistor bracket... Wash? Huh? [cheeky] I'm worried the seat latch pin will hit the wires if I put them under the latch. Maybe I'll paint the resistor tray, but for now I'm liking the "I made this look." ;D To add to your list of mods: you need to wrap those exposed wires in plastic tubing of electrical tape. ;D I'd like to get some of that plastic spiral wrap stuff. Electrical supply place is closed on Saturday. Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: stopintime on March 21, 2009, 04:00:36 PM Wash? Huh? [cheeky] I'm worried the seat latch pin will hit the wires if I put them under the latch. Ok, not under the latch itself - under the red bracket which holds the latch? Maybe I'll paint the resistor tray, but for now I'm liking the "I made this look." ;D Sign it with kids "fat" coloring (crayons?), then paint and afterwards scrape off the paint over the signature. Voila - home made, but beautiful.... [roll] I'd like to get some of that plastic spiral wrap stuff. Electrical supply place is closed on Saturday. Monday morning will be fine. ;) Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: Airborne on March 21, 2009, 04:05:48 PM which turn signals are those?
Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: DucHead on March 21, 2009, 04:09:21 PM which turn signals are those? Kellermann Micro-1000s (all around). I've had them on since April of '05, and they're showing signs of wear. Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: DucHead on March 21, 2009, 04:12:20 PM Ok, not under the latch itself - under the red bracket which holds the latch? That's a frame cross-member. If I run the wires under there, they'll be exposed. :-\ [laugh] That said, they're already exposed -- from the tail liight to the frame. [roll] Monday morning will be fine. I hope they carry it. I've seen it here (http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog_name=USPlastic&category_name=80&product_id=12508). Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: Rameses on March 21, 2009, 07:04:17 PM You should've made that resistor bracket out of a sheet of CF. ;D That said, it looks "make the beast with two backsing great!" [thumbsup] Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... How was dinner? If you have time in the next week or so, come on over with that belly pan, and maybe you can lend me a hand with my shock. ;D Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: Jtree007 on March 21, 2009, 09:02:52 PM looks nice and clean [clap]
I hate working or dealing with wires that are not organized and tidy... Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... I too like the under seat area clean, and those resistors are the main reason I have not went to LED signals yet. Good job thought! If you have time in the next week or so, come on over with that belly pan, and maybe you can lend me a hand with my shock. ;D Dinner was good. Watched the game and got a headstart on a night of drinking. [thumbsup] I'll have to check my work schedule for this week. As soon as I see what it is I'll give you a call and we can figure out when's a good time for me to bring the bellypan over. Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Title: Re: Cleaned up underseat wiring... Post by: Ducati2Hottie on January 21, 2011, 08:09:01 PM Just finished up my clean up..
(http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/ae179/Rwalker004/9be81bbb.jpg) I cut off the coil bracket and plastic fender brackets im in the process off grinding and painting it was less stressful than using the cut off wheel on the tail chop the day after i bought it. 05 620 is the model if you were wonderin. |
