Conflicting info still coming in, thus the differing reports.
crap >:(
RIP OPD officers. I tested with them in 1991. I was in college and a professor convinced me to stay in school. I lived in east Oakland for a few years. Not a nice place then, or now.
:(
Crappy day indeed. Condolences to family and friends of the three LEOs. A speedy and complete recovery for the injured officer.
So sad.
RIP
damn, that sucks.
Be careful out there to all our LEO members
That sucks. :'(
I lived in Oakland for 2 years (Lake Meritt/Grand Avenue area). It was nice there...not so much (at all) in east Oakland.

that is the nature of their job, its dangerous.
see forum rules regarding LEO threads.

what are you thinking?
:o :o
best wishes to the families...
Uh, methinks this isn't part of the standard "cop-talk" that is mentioned in the Board Guidelines. [leo] Those threads have started "got another ticket and i'm here to whine about it" etc.
There's no need to cite the rules when the posts are condolences and well-wishers.

That is true. The job is very dangerous, and probably much more so where this tragedy occurred than it is in my town.
Just because the danger exists doesn't make the fact that it occurred less tragic.
..and please look below.

ato memphis has the spirit of the rule correctly.
Wow, that really sucks. Condolences to the families and co-workers...
The 4th officer has died also. 2 were motorcycle cops. RIP fellow riders.
Sorry to hear about this. Sounds like the bad guy was a nut case real POS.

RIP Officer John Hege and Sgts. Mark Dunakin, Ervin Romans and Daniel Sakai. My condolences to your families.

he was on parole for other crimes.
And therein lies the problem, according to me.

Let's not go there...please.
Two were MC officers and the other two SWAT officers. :'( Another sad day in our community. My prayers are with the surviving families, my brothers are in good hands now.

Quite right. Is there a full write-up of the incident yet? I've only seen clips of articles via googlenews?
condolences to their families.
life sucks sometimes :'(

"nut case"? Don't make this piece of trash a victim; he was on parole for other crimes.
This thread is to honor these brave officers. RIP Officer John Hege and Sgts. Mark Dunakin, Ervin Romans and Daniel Sakai. My condolences to your families.
He knew what he was doing. He didn't want to go back to prison. He surely knew he had a parole hold warrant in the system, he probably didn't know he was just listed as a DNA match in a rape. To top it off after he shot the first two cops and they were down, he walked over and finished them off.
Anyone who makes excuses for this POS is one and the same.
i dont think anyone was excusing his actions by calling him a nut case....just expressing incredulity at his actions
,...course WTF do i know

Sorry, I had just read an update email that we were sent, and then read some of the news stories including quotes from his family trying to cast blame elsewhere. I was/am a bit PO'd. Then I read this thread again. Nature of the job? WTF? >:(
Wow, not only shot them but walked up and finished?
make the beast with two backs.
This definitely hits close to home for me. We're keeping their families in our thoughts.

ignore that one post. It was the most insensitive and outrageous post here in a long time and I don't think indicative of the forum. I hold the thought against the one poster alone.
