Title: sparks flying.
Post by: tristantumble on March 22, 2009, 06:28:48 AM
so i re charged and put my battery back in my bike. It all went well, and it started up the first try after 5 months of hibernation. My questions/concern was, when i hooked up the negative, there were small sparks, and i could hear the electricity flowing trough the bike. The immobilizer light would flash. Is that normal? does the bike take power from the battery the second it is put in?

There *may* be a very low draw on the battery but sparks and 'hearing the electricity flowing' doesn't sound normal.  Did you have the key on when you connected the battery?

don't get me wrong the sparks where small, but still...  The key was not in, and the ignition switch was turned to the position right before locking the front end.

The sparks are called load sparks and are completely normal as the immobilizer draws current constantly.

The position right before lock is the "park light" position. Chances are you saw the sparks because the tail light and the park light in the headlight housing were on
