Title: AMA Coverage is Making My Brain Hurt
Post by: zenjim on March 23, 2009, 10:09:53 AM
I don't get it.
I know others have lamented, but what exactly can I see when? Kinda hard to tell from the Daytona coverage.
This weekend at Fontana had 2 Superbike races, Daytona Sportbike, and Supersport. Will all of those races be on Speed? Last week was the whole 200 in one broadcast, then the Suprbike and an amalgamation of other races.
  • When I go to AMA.com, they're still selling tickets to the Fontana race.
  • At Speedtv.com their schedule still has the listings from last year, basically showing no races. Not even the new AMA Supersbikes Pro, or whatever it's called. And BTW, do we really need Ralph to interject before returning to the race, "Looks like Mladin is out in front, let's go back to the action!" Please don't tell me DMG blew all their money on that CGI intro crap.
    • And my TV can't go that far into the future to select programs. I mean it's not on 2 wheeled Tuesday.

So what gives? What the hell am I gonna see?
I guess there's always Spies (and now Hopkins!) on WSBK...

I didn't even bother Tivo-ing it. Watching a recent race after I know the results is less than satisfying.

...and two Superbike races...in one hour?

Exactly why the "1 hour of prime time" is such a load of shit. 5 races, even in two hours would be cutting it tight (remember there are ads too).

sounds a lot like sportscenter.  i.e. that thing that's on some other time to highlight and discuss the games.  that were already shown in their entirety.

It's the nascar show after the race without the race on first. It's make the beast with two backsing bullshit is what it is.

If they're going for entertainment as opposed to the actual racing, why not just make it pay-per-view and have umbrella girls going down on each other?

Spidey, you should go run DMG.  Either you'll figure out how to stop the suckage, or in finishing off the series you'll make some decent television.

I just saw that the AMA Pro Whatever it is coverage is 2 hours tonight instead of one.

That means it's only half as bad as I thought. More Ted Bundy than Pol Pot.

i really had a lot of hope and guarded excitement about the DMG AMA.

no more.

they are either doing this [motorcycles] because they think they can turn them into nascar pt. 2 or because they want to kill the sport completely, making room for more nascar.

either way, it's over.

so i finally watched a few minutes of the various episodes of ama pro primetime i have recorded

first, shaheen is, somehow, even worse here.  dude can't read cue cards.

worst off, ok, i understand that these shows are some inexcusable amount of time after the actual races, but in the first few moments of the show what do you get?

race results.

Awesome pic. I love NASCAR. I love all forms of racing. World of Outlaws is the best. I know you over educated misenthropes don't like it, but waaaa :'(

Oh yeah, that is either Talladega or Daytona. The only 2 restrictor plate races in the season.

I'll agree on the WoO. Sprint cars rock, especially at places like the high banks of Winchester where they're flat out. Good stuff.

I used to like NASCAR, but it just got to be too much. They let Chevy run a non-conforming body for 5 years and rack up championship after championship, but Toyota builds a good motor that's got some power and BAMMM!!!! they get restricted within a few races. Pull too far away from Jeff Gordon? BAM! "Competition yellow" to bunch everyone up. Everyone all bunched up? BAM, some dipshit crashes half the field on the last lap and we get a stupid "green-white-checkered" ending, all the while with Darryl Waltrip shouting out non-sensical crap.

Nope. NASCAR has left me behind.

I heard somewhere that DMG is trying to make the bikes bigger so the ad decals are more visible.  Might bring back sidecar racing in 2010; lots of ad space on those puppies...

So now I watched the Supersport race on Saturday - 2 weeks after the event. Nothing to write home about, but I sez to myself, at least I can watch race 2 of the Superbikes.   [popcorn]  Even though I've already heard the outcome despite desperate attempts not to. But no, they're showing race 2 NEXT WEEK! Next week is 3 friggin weeks after the race!

I'm out.

I had the dvr set yesterday for what was supposed to be AMA motorcycle racing and they swapped in some sort of truck racing on a dirt track.....    wtf is going on?

you should just think of it as there is no ama road racing coverage.

onthethrottle.com is about as close as you'll get

I'm not watching AMA this year.  Mebbe I'll catch a race or two when its on or mebbe I'll follow the results online or in the mags.  But it shouldn't be this difficult to watch a sport series.

un.  be.  leave.  able.  Though I guess if you're doing 120 and the bike is doin 120 right next to you, it just like hopping back on at dead stop.  Or not.

I gotta add that to the "Crashes that never happened" thread.  Lemme dig it up.   [thumbsup]

I watched the Infineon races (accidentally) the other day.  It was pretty annoying.  Good racing, but really awful announcing and that delay thing makes me wanna kill someone.

I'm back in love with Mladin.  I like him a while ago, go sick of him around the time Hodgson pregnant dogslapped him and like him again.  And his twitter is funny as hell.   [thumbsup]
