Title: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: Chchadder on March 23, 2009, 06:01:46 PM Bernard is getting ready to offer the SUPANOVA to the public once again! First he's filling orders from people who he refunded a while back (like me), and then he'll be taking orders from everyone else in the next few weeks. I am so stoked!! For those of you who don't know what this is, check out pics and vid here:
http://www.vizi-tec.com/SUPANOVA/SupaNova_Pictures.htm (http://www.vizi-tec.com/SUPANOVA/SupaNova_Pictures.htm) The startup sequence RULES!!! I will post up pics and vid as soon as I receive it and get it installed. Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: NAKID on March 23, 2009, 06:46:15 PM OK, how much? It says on their website they have to wait until they clear the backlog (45-60 days)...
Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: Chchadder on March 23, 2009, 07:49:32 PM I think that page has been up there for the last nine months or so since he moved out west. Prices did bump up a bit due to increased production costs, so that kind of sucks but is understandable. Top of the line with brake flasher and license plate light is a little over 300 shipped. Base model is about 250 shipped. What he told me is that he will be posting up for regular sale in the next two weeks or so.

Given that he's got it setup to do that swoosh for the awesome startup sequence, it woudl be better if the turn signal were half the with of the light as a repeted swoosh in the given direction in orange when selected as oppsed to blinking leaving the other half red like the clear alternatives LED.
(http://clearalternatives.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/CTL-0023-IT.jpg) --------->swooshing repetedly Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: Chchadder on March 24, 2009, 11:03:10 AM Its all a matter of preference I guess. I don't like the CA lights because the separation of the signals for me isn't adequate. I've seen lights that do a swoosh and it almost seems distracting rather than letting someone know that you are definitively planning on making a turn. Not sure about the legality of something other than a standard blinking blinker in every state. If a cop wanted to be a hardass he could probably make a case against anything other than a commonly recognized flashing turn signal.

Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: army_intel on March 24, 2009, 06:00:56 PM I have the SUPANOVA (first one Bernard made in some time) and it is 100% worth it. The video doesnt do it justice, and I have had people who were behind me on the street come up next to me at the light saying how visible the light is, especially the flasher.

I will happily accept rocks in my head when the brake flashing algorithm saves my ass from someone who might otherwise have missed the first two seconds of my brake light because they were changing songs on their IPod while driving right up my ass. The rest of the unit is just all bonus coolness baby... 8) Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: MotoCreations on March 24, 2009, 10:28:54 PM I'm sure that Bernard would love to have a much lower price (for people without rocks in their heads). But until someone shows up with a minimum order of 2500+ units (paid in advance) to allocate manufacturing in the Far East (and bulk rate part costs) -- he is going to have to make them on his workbench in very small batches and assemble, Q/A test and program each one individually. (note: Take a close look at one and notice the 550+ small components there -- it isn't a trivial task to assemble nor test each component beforehand) The way I look at it, this is a premium light offering available for those who desire and want it. Some might consider it as "safety gear" for the attention it gets and consider it an investment in that alone worthwhile. Everyone that I know that has one installed would never remove it after the comments they get from motorcyclists and non-motorcyclists alike. Only folks I wouldn't recommend this light to are the folks who don't want to be seen while riding or who try to evade the police. (This taillight would give you up especially at night even at long distance!) I'm just glad to see a quality product that is needed within the community and is produced by an enthusiast who has a love for Ducati's. Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: hcomp on March 24, 2009, 11:12:50 PM That thing is awesome! At least here in AZ it is legal to have an integrated tail light. As far as price, I think that $250 for a hand made light is not bad at all. That is a lot of parts to assemble.
Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA Post by: Chchadder on March 25, 2009, 04:57:41 AM Actually Bernard told me it is 700+ individual parts by hand... [bow_down] [bow_down]

Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: Mash on April 05, 2009, 07:00:38 PM wow, alien, your bike got the supermodel treatment. just gorgeous.
I've got the same model as you, and I also have the SupaNova tail light installed. Of course, Bernard hit me with a "but wait, there's more" and on an impulse, I bought his license plate bracket. It's machined aluminum and anodized black. Since I got rid of the rear turn signals, this bracket really cleans up the rear end. The light doesn't get hit by the seat like my homemade version. The license plate sits up tight to the light, which has a row of LEDs to light it. It fit perfectly and Bernard even included stainless hardware. I'm definitely happy with the add-on. Here's a stock photo of the bracket. (http://www.vizi-tec.com/SUPANOVA/IMAGE/Back-Left_800px.jpg) I'll post some of it installed soon. Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: Chchadder on April 05, 2009, 08:55:07 PM Yeah, that is really hot and I thought about picking that up as well but couldn't go beyond what I already laid out for the light. I may just pull of my chop kit and give it a good rattlecan job one of these days to compensate...
Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: greenohawk69 on April 06, 2009, 12:50:15 PM Just installed mine this weekend on my '97 M900. A little bit of splicing wires as it is not plug n' play...yet, as this is the first one that Bernard said he made for an older Monster like mine.
I see from the pictures (the top down) that the taillight does not protrude past the end of the seat. Mine does by a little bit, unless yours is actually covered by the cowl. I ditched my cowl. I would have bought the license plate frame, but had purchased one previously on eBay. Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: Buckethead on April 06, 2009, 05:10:01 PM Sorry man.
My only reference point is C.H.U.D. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087015/) For those who don't know, that's Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller. If your time in the service earned you that nickname, then I'm sorry. You must have seen some hellish conditions and I absolutely respect the sacrifice you're made for your country. But honestly, that's a horrible movie. Referencing it made me laugh. Stay well, AT2 Gilbert, USN. Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: Chchadder on April 06, 2009, 06:50:36 PM I appreciate the condolences, but never actually ate anyone over there. They wouldn't have been too tasty anyway after being out in the desert with no food for five months. I did smoke some dead man's cigarettes though...
Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: DucatiBastard on April 08, 2009, 02:13:51 PM Got my SupaNOVA light installed, looks friggin sweet! Bright as hell, fits perfect. Unexpected problem: Aftermarket LED front turn signals must have resistors for the NOVA to signal properly. I should have done this a long time ago, but i just got used to the Rizomas blinking fast. Ah well small detail that is easily fixed.
Side note, Bernard (owner/maker of lights) is great to deal with. Fast responses ,(and shipping too) courteous, he puts that personal touch into his business. I opened up the box and there was a little post-it note from Bernard saying tanks and enjoy, etc. Its little things like that that make me feel good about spending my money on the light. Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: Chchadder on April 08, 2009, 02:20:56 PM Yep, Bernard is a one of a kind. Sent me a pic of my unit to drool over while it was in transit, and marked my box #53 with a post-it as well. [thumbsup]

Lou Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: SikDuc on April 20, 2009, 04:27:57 PM Well. This was the easiest mod to install to date. Complete plug n play. Bernard was a pleasure to do business with and the product is top notch. Anyone sitting on the fence for this light should just do it. It is pricey but you get what you pay for. No cheap stuff for my Duc. I'll try n post pics.

Title: Re: Just ordered my SUPANOVA - SHAKYCAM VIDEO!! Post by: COWBOY on April 22, 2009, 05:07:56 PM +1 on the Supernova and kits Bernard sells
Got mine a while back. It is first rate and the install couldn't be any easier. One thing to keep in mind though if you use Rizoma or LED indicators. You will need the resistors installed on those or the nova will blink both sides when the signal is pushed for left or right (picture a cars hazards lights). Bernard and I discussed this and the reason is he has built in a resistor for his light but decided against the cost and weight of building it in for other possible lights as well. Again if you use LED for your front signals you will need to use resistors for the Nova to work properly. If you're not sure what I'm talking about go here http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/07-H505R/Electrical/07-H505R.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/07-H505R/Electrical/07-H505R.html) (http://www.monsterparts.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/07-H505R-2.jpg) Cheers. |
