No matter how you go you'll loose your ass unless you drive 'em until the wheels fall off and the replacement cost for parts after the warranty runs out will eat your lunch.

Take it from some one who has been there and done that !        Dolph      :)

M5 was always a favorite of mine, but as a BMW owner (540i sport model) I can tell you that maintenance and replacement parts cost a fortune.

But the M5 freakin' rocks!

love the m3 but the only thing holding me back is my 335 is very similar inside and out
the m5 now will blow the doors off of all three of those cars but should I get the 2005 or wait till the new 2010 body style comes out? but then its another $30k lol
the porsche is just sex and most likely thats the one im going with.

the lambo? yea its nice maybe when im 40 ill have one as a toy. triple black of course.
the toys after a wash

I say go with the Kia Sorrento, it will get you to and from work, and if you are asking us which one of these cars to get you really have no idea which car you want  [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]..

you are comparing a compact car/sedan/2+2 sportscar and asking which one to get?... don't you first have to decide which car type suits you?

sort of like the people on this board that say "should i get a s4 monster or a D16 as my first bike?".. uhhh they are completely different bikes for different purposes, yes they are both "motorcycles" but vastly different uses.

same with these cars.

Personally i say go with the porsche, but then again if you need room for an actual trunk then the porsche is useless, if you want something that is more like a normal compact car then the m3 is the way to go, if you need to actually fit a couple of adults in the back seat from time to time then the m5 is the way to go.

so the real question is what do you WANT?

I think the main issue with the GT is the paint scheme.  If they sold it without stripes it'd match any blah german car that everyone else has for flash.

I vote for the M5 cause:
   red and white  [puke]
you're obviously over the 335 for a reason, so why get the M3?

I've driven the new M3 sedan and the M5 on the track.  M5 is impressive, but the shifting is sluggish, and to be honest it was a little disappointing.

The new M3, holy shit.  The new dual clutch is ridiculous- you can't feel it shift in automatic mode with your foot on the floor- in SMG it's no comparison to the M5.   Plus, the motor is incredible-  an 8400 rpm redline V8...awesome.

I've had an M3 and a CarreraS . The Porsche is so smooth and the interior has nicer materials and the sound of the Boxer 6 behind you is awesome.

The M3 is a car that's not happy unless it's being pushed into the higher rpms.

There are BMWs every where . Porsches are still more of a rarity.

Bimmers have a 4 year /50,000 mile warrany  w/ FREE Service maintenance and Porsches have a 4 year / 50,000 mile no FREE Service Maintenance warranty.

Back in 2002 I had a BMW Z-8 but no FREE Service then. I paid $172 for an oil change at the Dealership.       Dolph      :)

I've driven the Porsche and the M5

Fun factor, the Porsche hands down.

The M5 can be pretty sedate if you want it to. It is also the more practical of the choice. But it turns into a shit-ton of grins once you put your foot down. Another thing to consider, I don't know where you live, but here in Houston, I see 5+ M5's around every day.

A carrera 4s? not so much. You're a guy that is pretty mindful of appearances, and I'm sure you'll get just a little ticked off when you see the car you just paid a bunch of money for everywhere.

It's not like having a Superbike that you can take out of town and run at high speeds and probably get away with it.

After a couple of full throttle blasts with the Sports Car , then you start worrying about where you can park it that it won't get keyed , or getting on it in town usually means TICKETS which means points and big time insurance bills or loosing your license.

I just know that I can take my 1098R out in the " Hills " and feel pretty safe about speeding since you can get over 145 in 10 seconds and slow down to the speed limit in half that time and for the most part you aren't going to stand out.

With a Sports Car there are a lot less places to run over 100 in the country and you will stand out like a sore thumb and the chances of putting it in the " woods " is so much more likely than on a bike .

You are wearing out a lot more than tires running the twisties with a Sports Car .

I've had so much more fun on a bike than I ever did in a Sports Car ( except for my '57 MGA when I was just out of HS ).

Granted I came closest to killing myself on a bike but like I said before , I should have died many times or gone to prison for the speeding and drag racing in cars.

If you just want a car to be seen in then go with the Porsche.    Dolph

'78 toyota pick-up.

still runs strong.
cheap oil changes.
will get you from a -> b
will carry a couple kegs in the back
don't have to worry about it getting keyed.
looks appropriate when "the club" is the braced across the steering wheel.
if parked next to the M5, M3, or Porsche, you aren't the one worrying about if the door is going to hit.
