Title: Peninsula Ride Saturday?
Post by: Popeye the Sailor on March 24, 2009, 11:26:01 AM
The roads are now clear and dry.

It's still ass cold in the mornings, so this should get started as late as ten or so-who's in?

Got a bicycle ride planned, but otherwise a S. Bay cruise would be nice.  Stay alert...squid season is starting.  One of the first newbie BARF rides ended up with three guys (at least two of them newer riders on R1's) going down.   [roll]  Just glad no one was seriously hurt.

Not a ton of squids yet, due to the cold. The far side of skyline is chilly.

Bring your bike down our way...I can show you some nice Peninsula riding and we could meet up with the gang for lunch. ;D

Well, I screwed the pooch and forgot about a prior commitment.   [bang]  I'll be up north cycling that day.

Possibly riding Friday if I can get the day off.

Been meaning to do that anyway, but I'm going to be riding with a friend who's on break this week from school.  He's staying in East Bay so we're going to stay close to home.  That and I tore up my knee a little a couple of weeks ago, so I don't want to get out in the middle of nowhere and find myself stuck!  Let's plan on something foot-powered together soon...  [thumbsup]

I'm out the next 2 weekends.  After that, when the squids start to flow (ugh), I will be available again.

I feel the need to put up little roadside signs burma-shave style.

Wearing only a lid?

You may be a squid.

Keep the skin on your rear.

Go buy some gear!

I don't own a camera.  ;)

So, hung out at Alice's-Jammen showed-no sign of anyone else. We took skyline>9 and saw the valley covered in fog (hence maybe no one had left?) anyway, it was gorgeous out-around 70-75 degrees on skyline. Took 9 down to Santa Cruz and got some chow, then took 1 up to gazo creek to cloverdale to pescadero, and from pescadero to my place for food and cigars. Took a coupla hours at a nice chill pace. Roads are very nice right now, but still not squid infested. No sign of LEO's. You guys should head out ASAP.  :)

I had a great ride too, on the Spanish bike.  Took Pescadero to Stage, saw a gorgeous peacock on the road.  Later on Stage an airhead in a convertible tried to take me out coming towards me around a blind corner on my side of the road, but she managed to swerve in time. [roll]

Went up Tunitas Creek, caught another cyclist answering a call of nature. [laugh]

I forgot how nice the descent on Skyline from Bear Gulch down to Alice's is, in the past I mostly went the other way.  Then took 84 down to Pescadero and back home for a shower and food.

Absolutely gorgeous, the only place without clear skies and sun was highway 1 this morning.  It was 70F on Skyline and 75F on 84! [thumbsup]

Sorry we couldn't make it. BG and I decided to have a Saturday out of the city, so we headed up to Healdsburf and Bear Republic brewery...80 degrees, no LEOs, and lots of fun.
