Title: Opinions on local shop, Crossroads Cycle [updated]
Post by: tuanogus on March 25, 2009, 02:26:12 PM
Anyone ever dealt with Crossroads Cycle? I'm at my 600 miles and want someone else to do this first round of maintenance. I thought I'd check out local alternatives to Coleman (where I purchased the bike). I've read good and bad reviews of both elsewhere on the Web, and have read what folks have to say about Coleman here. Just want some feedback on Crossroads if you got any.

I did talk to, who I think is, the owner. Said he does everything Ducati except valves and things that require software. Seemed honest, knowledgeable and opinionated (in a good way).

[update]

After talking with the folks over at Coleman (Falls Church) I decided to do my 600 mile maintenance with them. Nothing against Crossroads, however. I just felt that I shouldn't **** around with this service. So far I'm having a good experience with Coleman.

I've been to see Dennis at Crossroads several times.   Nothing very complex, usually oil changes, tire changes, and safety wiring for track days.  The cool thing about Cross Roads is they keep Saturday open for walk in (ride in) business on a first come first serve basis.   Note they will only accept fairly quick turn jobs on Saturday.  His prices are reasonable.

Well, you've got a minor problem - 600 requires a valve check - so at least in this instance Crossroads is out for that item.

Colemans... has a very hit and miss history.  There was an era where one of the CAM gang was actually the GM of the hoodbridge location.  He got CAM'ers discounts on labor gear etc and at least in my instance would personally follow up on work being done to my bike.  But - he's not there anymore... And I've got no real current read on how either locations tech staff is.  Really, most folks in the area make the trek to DucPond.  But basically, right now Colemans is really an unknown, at least for me.

I've got no problem with dropping in for things like parts - the FC parts guys have always treated me well.  But if my babe needed invasive surgery that I couldn't tackle - you'd see a post of me looking for a lift to the pond.

Thanks for the feedback.

Quote600 requires a valve check

Hmm, my owner's manual says 7500 miles for the first valve check/adjustment. Maybe it's the updated engine in this new M696?

Ah hell, maybe I'll have the wife follow me out to Winchester on Saturday... weather permitting. We've never been out there so it'll give us something to do.

Hoodbridge service is good.  I usually take mine out to DucPond, but in some cases, having Colemans 2 min. away, it just doesn't make sense.  There is a guy there named Casey who does all of the Ducati work, and does a good job.  A good group of folks at Hoodbridge, but I prefer DucPond when I can get there.
