I just picked up a wrecked 2000 m900 that I'm going to attempt to restore and actually have two questions I'm hoping someone can help me out with.
1) The tale section of the frame is twisted, but the the rest of the frame seems ok to my naked eye. Should I just assume the whole frame is a write off and look for a replacement?
2) Will any pre-2001 frame be a fit or will only the 00 and 01 frame be a match? If anyone knows which frames will match up, I would very much appreciate any suggestions.
Honestly, I think I may have bit off more than I can chew, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. I have my 2001 m900 to help me as a reference as I strip the 2000 down and then put it back together and I've been taking pictures as I strip it down. I've labeled everything and have been bagging stuff as I put it in boxes. If it were just for me I would do a half ass job, but the bike will be for my GF and I need to make it 1) safe and 2) sharp looking.
As a last resort, if I get to a point where I can't go any further I have a great ducati mechanic who does stuff very reasonably for me, but I want to get as far as I can on my own. I will try and post some pics along the way.

That's what I'd assume. It's hard to tell with the tail sections of a monster frame. If the front of hte frame is straight, sometimes you can bend the tail section back. Other times you can't bend it back without tweaking the remainder of the frame. But you don't know until you've taken it a frame guy, had it measured and tehn try to bend it back.
I'd get the frame checked out before you write it off.
I'm pretty sure all '01 and earlier non-S4 frames are the same, there may be minor differences like the way the beer tray mounts or other stuff.
thanks for the suggestions guys............I got most of it stripped down yesterday and will have a guy who can check it out for me when I finish stripping it today.
if you go the route of replacing the frame, you'd be best off getting a 2000 or 2001. The difference is where the airbox/TB's are. There's a cross tube in one but not the other. Meaning either the carbie's had the cross tube or the FI's did. I don't remember which way it went. Ducvet would know for sure.
best of luck!
