Hey all this Sunday (5/18) at 4pm on Speed is the French Grand Prix.   [moto]

Any interest in detailing some bikes at my pad and watching some races?  Or going to a local bar to watch it?

GAWD DAMMIT!! im already working then!!

and my baby could use a good detailing..

There are also going to be races out at the Sandia track ( I believe SMRI) on the west side. Superbike, vintage, etc.

I'm definitely interested.  

BTW, I started watching "Long Way Around" and I am loving it.  I finally get all the allusions to Count Desmo's Ewan MacGregor look.  I thought it was in reference to Star Wars.  Duh! 

sweet!  I am bringing the Long Way Down over to Godec's so maybe you two can start on that one together...  movie,  check.  popcorn check.  morphine, check!    Party at Dave's just bring your own needle.

Rumors stating that Nicky Hayden will be joining Ducati's MotoGP team for 2009 continue to heat up with the current rumor du jour that Hayden will join Casey Stoner on the factory team next season.

Clearly the obstacle in all this is Marco Melandri who although he is clearly struggling on the Ducati he has a two-year contract which runs through 2010.

but there was also spectulation that Sete Gibernau may ride with ducati again...

Maybe the big boys are riding the wee bikes.  How cool would that be to see ?
They are racin'  maybe not televised though.  That would suck.

They are racing in Germany at Sachsenring if you go to motogp.com it gives the local time, here, of the race but NO i do not believe it is televised, I may be wrong...I have been in the past....many times....but thats another story.

Maybe if they would change the rules for next season and there was a f'n football or basketball being past around they would get more airtime in the states.

i knew there was a race, but i just figured they would televise it!

Speed only list Motogp 125 , motogp 250 & 4 total races all year they are calling Motogp world championships.  So with that being said.. I don't have a frick'n clue.

Casey Stoner took his fourth consecutive MotoGP pole position and the fourteenth of his Grand Prix career today, smashing Dani Pedrosa's pole record at the Sachsenring circuit, set in 2006 on the 990cc machine, by eight tenths of a second. In an exciting climax to this afternoon's hour-long qualifying session the Australian improved his lap time with each of the three qualifying tires available to him, after again showing impressive form on race tires.

Stoner wins again at wet Sachsenring

Reigning champion Casey Stoner took a strong victory in appalling conditions in the German MotoGP, on his way to his fourth win - the third consecutive one - this season.

The Ducati Marlboro rider, who qualified on pole yesterday, was pipped at the start by Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa and JiR Honda's Andrea Dovizioso.

Pedrosa immediately opened up a gap - almost two seconds in the first lap - and set a blistering pace to be 7.4 seconds ahead of everyone else after the first five laps.

But it all came to an end for the Spaniard at the beginning of lap six, when he crashed out of the race at high speed while braking for turn one.

Pedrosa, who went from leading the championship to trailing Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi by 21 points and being ahead of Stoner by just four, was left with a broken left index finger.

After getting by Dovizioso on lap two, the crash opened the way for Stoner. But he had Rossi to keep under control.

The Italian, from seventh on the grid, had an ordinary start that didn't see him making up any places. But he quickly started making up ground and was up to second by lap nine, 3.4 seconds behind Stoner.

From then on, the two began exchanging fastest laps, but it was last year's champion doing it more often, with the gap slowly increasing to reach a maximum of 6.7 with four laps to go.

Mid-way through the race, Rossi's second place looked to be at risk, with wet-weather specialist Chris Vermeulen reaching an impressive third place and getting closer with his Rizla Suzuki after starting from the 14th spot.

But that didn't last long, with Rossi able to increase the gap again to finish over ten seconds in front of the Australian, who had to fend off the attack of Honda Gresini's Alex de Angelis, just 0.122 seconds behind at the flag.

Dovizioso classified in a distant fifth place, ahead of the ALice Ducati of Sylvain Guintoli and a jubilant Loris Capirossi, who on his return from injury just beat LCR Honda's Randy de Puniet for seventh.

Fiat Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo crashed once again on lap three from sixth place, while Marco Melandri crashed his factory Ducati on lap ten shortly after setting the fastest lap of the race up to that point. Tech 3 Yamaha's Colin Edwards also crashed out from fifth place on lap 21.

Works Honda rider Nicky Hayden dropped to last place during the first lap and was never able to recover. He visited the pits at the end of lap seven and then rejoined the track, eventually finishing last, two laps down from Stoner.

Stoner's The Man, but I have a special affinity with Jorge.   Ever since that phenomenal highside in China.  He could've used his bike for a coffee table.  Never a dull moment in his little world either.  He should race for us, dammit.

I dont know....our very own Zaster has to give you a run for the money in the distance category.  He vaulted and was able to complete a 720 mctwist with an ankle gainer before landing!

Okay, he's got me in the Difficulty category for his flawless execution of the 720 mctwist with an ankle gainer, however my first launch was up there with his in Distance flown.  Since I only performed a three-quarter layout and didn't stick the landing, I will concede the point.  I am definitely leading the First and Most categories.   Here's to being fortunate enough to walk away and mounting back up, just like Jorge.  [clap]

A huge high-speed highside crash for Nicky Hayden on turn two at the end of the session saw him unable to move up from 16th on the grid on his Ducati debut and he was stretchered away for medical attention. [bang]

Nope, Nicky got CRUSHED through no fault of his own.  On the Big List there was some debate as to whether Nicky's recent injuries might foul up his entire season.  Some folks are even wondering if he'll ever compete with the fast guys again.  I, for one, hope he will.  It's more fun when there are more guys dicing up front.

Meanwhile, Last year at Jerez the Little Robot was virtually unchallenged.  This year I think he'll run up front, but Lorenzo will beat him in the end!

Well, The BIG race was almost as expected! However, the 250cc session was just awesome, 4 up the front row beating life and death!!! Also, Supercross with Stewart and Reed was awesome!!! Quite a race weekend! [moto]

I was shocked when my man Jorge fell off so late in the race.  What a bummer!

I'll keep rooting for for Nicky, too, but I don't expect much for the next few weeks.  He seems to be in a fair amount of pain and that makes it really hard to get out there and do your best.  I feel for him.  At least he has a few weeks to heal up before the next race.

Yes, we have been enjoying all kinds of races lately.  I am really digging Spies myself.  I think the only races I haven't enjoyed as much are all of them with Matt Mladin.  He really needs to retire or move up.

I wondered if his mechanic was putting loktite on his seat.  When he starts pushing, the way he does, it is nigh onto inevitable he's coming off sooner or later.  He is looking great and finally getting the wins and recognition he deserves.  Coming off the bike is just part of the sport for him.  I like that mindset.   ;D  Push the envelope.

So, this is a bit far-sighted.... but who wants to come party in Indiana this year for GP with me?  [beer]

I went last year and it was a blast (minus the freaking hurricane)  I got friends that live in Kokomo that made the trip out relatively cheap.. but I dont think I'll be in attendance this year. (as much as I'd love to be)  One thing's for sure though.. it will definately be a party!

I go to school just up the road.  Couldn't bring myself to go this year cause my bike was out of comission and I'd have felt sad.  Either way, the Indy Ducati guys are a good group.  Do damn fine (and quick) service work too.

Bike out of comission or not.. It is next to impossible to feel sad at the GP..  the sound alone is enough to make even the slightest of gearhead smile.. it consumes you.  then there is Ducati island with complimentary Stoner water, Custom bike show, Clothing show, more D16rr's than you could shake a stick at, Overpriced apparrel, gorgeous women, and just so many amazing displays of Duc-hotness.  I think the only thing I know of at the GP that would make someone (about 14 someones) sad was when the guy on the end of the row of parked Ducati's put a cover on his bike, the hurricane winds caught the cover, made a sail, and created the desmo-domino affect .. I think it was 10-14 bikes that fell..  THAT was sad..  Otherwise.. the endless rows of Superbikes, Monsters, MH900's 750SS, 900SS, Desmo's, Suersports, Hypermotards.. and I guess Multi's too.. well it was just amazing to see.   Somewhere I posted pics of it all on here.. (not a clue where)  but yeah.. point being. . Next to impossible to be Sad at a GP.

Going riding first, or just watching races today?

I just read the news from the 250GP in Italy where Simoncelli ran into Bautista.  The FIM fined Simoncelli $5000 and gave him a "yellow card warning" (get two in a single season and you're suspended) for running Bautista off the track with his bush league BS.

I feel like they should have switched the results and put the two riders back into the order where they ran before Simoncelli pulled that stunt.  He gained a position from it, why should he be allowed to keep it?  He pulled a crazy stunt, gained a position, forced Bautista to worry about what's behind him for the rest of the year, and got what?   A slap on the wrist is what.  I call shenanigans, I'm goin' ta git mah broom.

I hope Bautista smacks him down today at Catalunya!!

I hope everybody got to see the last 5 laps of the Catalunya MotoGP race.  As Charlie Brown's friend Lucy's sign said, "The Doctor is IN".  As usual, I have DVRed it if anybody needs proof of my statement.

It was the best GP race I have ever seen, period. But it wouldn't have been half as great if I knew the outcome.

Come out for a ride Sunday morning at the Cafe at Dawn.  Look in the "Who's Riding this Weekend" thread for times, though you can find somebody there most times on Sunday morning as long as the weather's nice.

Take I-40 east to exit 175 (Tijeras) and the Cafe at Dawn is on 14 (Turquoise Trail) north of I-40 in Cedar Crest on the west side of the road.  You can't miss it.  There is a gas station (a Chevron, I think) in Cedar Crest, also on the west side of the road before you get to the cafe, if you need to fill up before we meet.

Yeh, I know where that is. I rode up there yesterday. The weather and roads were nice. I try to ride up there at least once a week even though it is waaaay out of the way for me. I work on base and live up close to Rio Rancho. It's all good though.

I can throw stones across the arroyo into Rio Rancho, so I know what you mean.  My house is as far north and west as you can get and still be in Albuquerque (out near the end of McMahon past Unser).  Holler if you wanna head that way together and we'll turn a wheel.

If you think you're out of the way, try from the end of 528 at 550.  No whinning about distance.  That's why you have a fast bike.   ;D

Well, that was a spoiler of sorts, but at least I didn't tell you who rode the bikes and who got off hard!  Both Lorenzo and Stoner looked to be in pretty significant pain after their respective high sides.  Lorenzo, in particular, had a rough get-off.  Hope they're both OK to ride 100% today.

When Scott said Yamaha I thought for sure Rossi so i would say he didnt give it away. Great high sides though. Cameraman didnt really catch Stoners high side. I'm right there with ya, Mouse, except I wanna see him up front dicing with Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, Pedrosa, and Dovizioso.  That kid's got tons of talent, so it'd bee cool to see him put it to competitive use.

Ditto your sentiments about the paint scheme on the bike (and the replica 848).  I think it looks particularly cool from head-on or 45° from head-on.

On to the subject of spoilers...no, this isn't a spoiler...on the list.

I never considered anything to do with qualifying a spoiler.  I know some folks are more guarded, but I figure if you watch the race you're gonna get the qualifying results before the first lap ever happens, so what have I really given ya?  If hearing qualifying results or times is a spoiler, then you could never watch a race because you get that information when they show the starting grid.  If that spoils it for ya, then you're screwed.

Apologies to Bonfy (and anyone else who was legitimately wronged) for spoiling MotoGP qualifying to some extent.  I won't talk about racing AT ALL except in the spoiler thread from now on.

in teh end i dont think it will be a good season for him...points wise... but i bet next season it will rock it better, cause he still learning the bike and getting it where he can ride it better and suit him...for that i give him props for tryign and failing and trying and now he got a great result this time, i would like to think he would be up there with the big boys i doubt he can touch rossi/stoner :-\ i do have faith and always will cause he is my man...but i can see him battling ped, dov, maybe lorenzo at times.....

'Sall good!  The way I see it, no blood, no foul.  The big deal about qualifying results are that if your guy has a big enough off, he won't even be riding the next day so that kind of kills it for me.  It's like finding out someone already won the powerball jackpot before you check your ticket. 
 
I watched the qualifying last night after work and still have the race to look forward to this evening.  All, I can say is, wow.  Twice in one day for Jorge.  He is my leige.   [moto]

I'd love to see those races, the Isle of Mann is really intriguing to me.  Back in the day, when Dusty and I were first buddies (and prosperously employed at Intel), we discussed adding a trip to IOM to the list of routes we'd like to ride.  I may have to add that channel to my line-up in lieu of a trip for now.

From everything I've read, Philip Morris (Makers of Marlboro, et al) executives are pretty pissed at Stoner for his lack of willingness to appear in support of their marketing efforts, and for his handling of his current illness.  It is said that he simply told the team he was taking off without even bothering to consult them.  I know we're talking about the man's health, but he should have asked for their input into the decision just to present the illusion that he cares what they think.  Now it's obvious he doesn't.

Another story I've read reports that Philip Morris gave Ducati the green light to throw whatever money is necessary at Lorenzo to get him on board.  Rossi's salary was $12 million for 2008, $14 million for 2009, and will increase to $16 million for 2010 (numbers approximate, as his salary is actually paid in Euros).  Lorenzo currently makes less than $2 million from what I've read.  Reports of current salary offers include $5 million from Yamaha and as much as $8 million from Ducati, though nothing is certain until the ink is dry.  $8 million would make Jorge the second highest paid rider in the MotoGP paddock.  Bear in mind that Philip Morris also supports F1 efforts, among others, and has VERY deep pockets, so I lend this story considerable credence.

There is some confusion as to which rider, Stoner or Hayden, will remain aboard the second factory bike.  Some reports say Stoner is out, period.  Others say Hayden will be dropped to a satellite bike or will be looking at a satellite Yamaha.  I tend to think that they'd keep Stoner as a second fiddle (One of Lorenzo's demands is that he be the undisputed premier rider for any team he considers outside of Yamaha) and ask Nicky to ride a satellite bike, which he may refuse in favor of a Yamaha mount.  I have a hard time thinking Ducati would dismiss the only rider with a proven ability to put thier bike on the box, and the only rider in history to give Ducati a premier class championship EVER.

Regardless of what happens, if Lorenzo hops aboard the Ducati it's gonna be interesting.  Can you say "highside"?  I knew you could.   ;D

I just dont see them getting rid of Stoner over this illness.  He has proven to be very valuable to them.  I would be surprised if they change that.

Nicky's current contract is a one year deal with a clause for a one-year extension if both parties agree to continue the relationship.  Basically, if either Ducati or Nicky wants to discontinue the relationship, it is disolved at the end of the year.

This article presents several things that I haven't read anywhere else, in particular that Stoner supposedly refuses to eat for 12 to 14 hours at a time, then binges on candy and sweets.  No wonder there have been questions about his diet and workout regimen, huh?  Of course, the article states this might be inaccurate.  However, in my mind, the fact that the rumor is circulating at all means that there is probably SOME truth to it.  The article also discusses Stoner's reluctance to participate in promotional functions and his dislike of the Eurpoean media and Europeans in general.  

Wow....I had no clue he felt so alone.  I know that much of this feeling is in his head and in his attitude toward specific situations, but to openly feel so isolated and so far from home must be difficult for him.  It'd be a huge loss to the series, but maybe Casey is better off taking care of Casey and leaving MotoGP to those with more outgoing personalities and greater tolerance for ambiguity.  I, personally, feel greatly at ease in crowds, talking to strangers, and experiencing new things.  That makes it difficult for me to empathize with Casey and his current situation.  Makes me wish I was 20 years younger, 125 pounds lighter, and just a little prettier, so that I could take his place and make millions of euros doing something I love in front of adoring fans and jealous rivals.  

Huh...reckon Ducati has any interest in a fat, slow, old man to take Casey's place for a couple of races?  I might finish last....but I'll have more fun than the rest of the field combined!!!  Surely Mamola's two-up machine has enough spring and damping to carry a fat boy.   [moto]

I think that's the smart play for Lorenzo.  He does a one-year deal with Yamaha and has a chance to renegotiate a FAT contract next year after probably finishing second in the series this year and maybe as a World Championship challenger next year.  No better lubricant for big checks than success.

That, or he could switch to a bike that's notoriously hard to ride for a one-time fat paycheck that COULD compromise the remainder of his racing career if it's a bad year on the Ducati.  That kid is smart.  Period.

We have the Consumer Prouduct Safety Commission interpreting laws and preventing the sale of dirt bike mini bikes because they are considered toys and all toys that have lead are banned.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission thinks kids riding mini bikes are going to go suck on the battery or on engine parts made of lead. These kids in Spain are training on mini bikes on Go Kart tracks and our kids can’t even have their folks buy them a mini bike. And right now Americans are the best at Motocross and what is going to happen in a few years when kids can’t get an early start on mini bikes.?

During the upcoming World Superbike weekend,  to be held at the Italian circuit of Imola from 25th to 27th September, the Ducati Xerox Team, in collaboration with Ducati.com, will allow fans from around the world the chance to see right to the heart of the action, by providing live streaming direct from Noriyuki Haga’s garage on both Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September.
A brand new experience, with the live and uncut footage undoubtedly spiking the interest of the countless passionate fans who are following the Superbike racing as the season comes to a thrilling climax. This is a way for the loyal fans, sponsors and Ducatisti to participate, allowing them  a “fly on the wall” view of the unique, adrenalin-fuelled world of the motorcycle racer and his team.
With only three races left, and with both of the Ducati Xerox riders, Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio, in the running for the rider’s title, the experiment is thus implemented for the very first time at Imola, which is of course hosting what is the “home round” for Ducati.

There isn't much real meat in the article this link will take you to, but it has the coolest ginned-up photoshop image of Rossi on a Ducai you could ever imagine.  Basically, the article speculates about a Rossi-to-Ducati deal for 2010 or 2011 on a separate Rossi-only satellite team with factory support.  Rossi, himself, denies that he will ride for anyone but Yamaha in 2010, and I've read that Yamaha has offered him an "unlimited extension" to insure that he retires on a Yamaha....but Rossi WON'T deny a possible jump to Ducati in 2011.

well I broke down and bought the motogp pass again this year...

so we will have to get together for races  [Dolph]

I'm gonna have to get my ass in gear and watch a couple races with you guys. I usually just end up mooching off my parent's satellite though.  :P

I bought the package again so now we can watch all the races 125, Moto2, GP if we want commercial free...maybe if i get my ass into gear we can get together at our place and watch the race....

its off the motogp.com site...video pass..it's like 126 bucks, but sooo worth it....

right now i'm watching last years Qatar race  8)

Have changed to cable at 100mbps so I can settle in and watch this properly this year

the package is 10x better than cable....no commericals, get to see all the interviews and watch the prep-ness for before the race.....totally worth it than cable.....

Do you guys watch it through your pc, or do they have a channel for Roku, etc?

I pull it up on the laptop and use an HDMI and connect to the TV  [thumbsup]

Well since Spies is leaving Yamaha who know where he will go...

Dovi wants the Yamamha but don't know if he will get it...

And well Rossi can either stick it out with Ducati or if he wants to win a championship go back to yamaha...but who knows its all crazy
