Title: Duc Down in Austin Post by: PatoMalo on March 31, 2009, 07:15:59 PM I got run into today 3/31 (Lamar & Shoal Creek Blvd [west of House Park] for Austinites).
Fortunately I was standing still and the car that hit me was only moving at a walking a pace. Northbound traffic was real heavy at 4:40P so I was stopped waiting for an opening. This car pulled up behind me and I could see a young chic driving looking left (south). To my utter amazement she started forward and hit me on my left side. She later said she was only moving forward to try and get a better look at oncoming traffic. Guess I was invisible. It knocked me over to the right. I managed to step off the bike as it went down so didn't get pinned by it or between her car and the bike on the left side. My left foot peg hooked her right front tire side wall and blew it out. That was about the most exciting thing of the whole incident. You ever been about a yard from a car tire when it blew? Thought I was back in (http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7725/mickythen3.th.jpg) (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mickythen3.jpg) there for a minute. Anyway, I'm going to be sore as heck tomorrow from trying to keep the bike from going down and then picking it up afterwards. Hey, at 62 I pay wrestling ~ 450 lbs of motorcycle. Her car appears to have suffered more than my bike although we know you actually spell Ducati 'm o n e y'. It broke the foot peg off on the left and scratched the right side up some when it landed. I actually changed her tire for her and even warned her her insurance company was going to have a heart attack if she told them that. Something to the effect of '.....what if he would have injured himself changing the tire....' I drove it home with my left foot dangling between shifts. Be careful out there........Micky Broken foot peg: (http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/8343/peg1a.jpg) By mickydavis (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/mickydavis), shot with FinePix 3800 (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=FinePix+3800&make=FUJIFILM) at 2009-03-31 Hyundai Attack Vehicle: (http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6496/site1a.jpg) By mickydavis (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/mickydavis), shot with iPhone (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=iPhone&make=Apple) at 2009-03-31 Title: Re: Duc Down in Austin Post by: Sleeper_I on March 31, 2009, 07:39:02 PM Hyundai drivers >:( >:( + Lamar >:( >:( >:( = >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( [bang]
Glad you're ok You're a real gentleman for changing her tire for her Scratchs are just some battle scars ;D Title: Re: Duc Down in Austin Post by: hiero on April 01, 2009, 04:08:27 AM glad that you're alright!
luckily, the CC footpeg and peg holder aren't too terribly expensive (I've had to change them before, very reasonable). the only real issue is hoping they have them in stock for you in the color you need (they do keep stock of individual parts for just such occasions, so give them a ring) Title: Re: Duc Down in Austin Post by: yotogi on April 01, 2009, 05:10:20 AM So happy to hear that ALTHOUGH the bike went down, but you were unhurt!
And it is really cool of you to help her get the tire fixed, good deeds like those pay off in the long run. Title: Re: Duc Down in Austin Post by: PatoMalo on April 01, 2009, 05:20:25 AM "So happy to hear that the bike went down, ??? but you were unhurt!"
The young lady's insurance info seems to be in order but I haven't called them yet. I'm not as sore as I thought I would be this morning. I got my first bike in the Summer of '71 (Honda 450 Scrambler) and have had one almost the whole time since. There were a few years as I got into home ownership and started a family in the late '70s I was w/o. This is my first time down for any reason. I was keyed up last night and didn't hit the sac until 2:30A this morning. Have a good'un.... I shouldn't type stuff on the interwebs before initial coffee consumption is complete. On a positive, at least your party that hit you HAD insurance, unlike my happy little episode last Oct..(IH 35/Cesar Chavez)....What ever became of "Severe Penalties for failure to maintain insurance?" Laughable...... Title: Re: Duc Down in Austin Post by: IZ on April 02, 2009, 08:38:07 PM Glad to hear you didn't get hurt too much and the bike is still in one piece!
On a positive, at least your party that hit you HAD insurance, unlike my happy little episode last Oct..(IH 35/Cesar Chavez)....What ever became of "Severe Penalties for failure to maintain insurance?" Laughable...... Yeah..^^^ but then I get sh*t from a motorcycle cop for not having my current insurance card (expired a couple days before but had new one at home in other wallet) with me when I was SUPPOSEDLY speeding!! Azzhole! Malo..CALL THE INSURANCE AND DON"T WASTE ANYMORE TIME!! THe longer you wait..the more you tighten up and the insurance company WILL use your "lollygagging" against you!! DON"T WAIT to get on them about this. Sorry to say but..in your defense..you were a fool to pick up your bike and ESPECIALLY for changing her tire! The insurance will eat that up if you try to file a claim that you got hurt! :-[ I was just on trial last year for getting rear-ended (at a standstill on the highway by a delivery truck) by some a-hole. His lawyer made ME look like the bad guy in front of the jury. >:( You should have called an ambulance. You don't have to sue but you do have to play the "game" so YOU don't get f'ed! |
