Post by: Duece on April 01, 2009, 03:52:45 PM
Has any one ever heard of or used Shinko Tires (http://www.shinkotireusa.com/)? Thought comments?

I've heard of them.

They're inexpensive. ;)

Street or Track?

Track or Drag?

I read on a different forum some people using them for drag bikes. No complaints there I think.

Track may be a different story. I remember reading somewhere that the carcass of these tires are retreads. New rubber,  but old belts. Don't take my word for it, I've been wrong plenty o' times.  :P

Im just looking for street tires. No track no drag.

My monster is my real first road bike, altough i have spent a few month on an 06 kawasaki 636 that my friend owned. So im not planning to do anything crazy, just learn the feel of the bike and get some road time under my belt.

So suggestions welcome also.

i think the Tomahawks are the ones that are re-treads....
they come in colors too!  [cheeky]

i would suggest save money elsewhere (take your lunch to work, switch from cable to hulu, cancel your web connection and get on a neighbor's unsecured wireless  [evil]) and spend the money on good tires. they are a safety item.

here's some other ideas-
i think cycle gear has a sale coming up with a tire combo really cheap
dunlop has a new bargain sport tire- 616, and their roadsmart tires have been getting good reviews
i just got some Avon Storms on my bike, and they have nice feel and will last longer than supersport tires

Shinko tires are made from Yokohama technology and processes, and maybe even some of their equipment. They are low-cost, probably for the most part because no one knows or trusts them.

I've known people who have ran the Advance and Podium and said they suck, but my wife actually likes the Podium that is on the rear of her GSXR. She says the profile of the Stealth on the front of the GSXR is weird when first entering a curve, but feel fine once leaned over and committed. The largest issue that we see with the Stealth is that the profile really does suck. It is too flat and is far too easy to get all the way over to remove the chicken strips compared to all the other tires we've run (Pirelli, Dunlop, Michelin, Bridgestone, etc...). I've looked at the Advance and the Podium front tires, and she may try out a full set of Podiums, next.
