Title: Modded 1100S Post by: spinned on April 03, 2009, 01:58:09 PM Brought home my son's bike this week from the dealer. He is currently in Iraq and has been overseas for 6 years now... but he is coming home for vacation this month. He bought the new 1100S and had if fully decked out and delivered. hmmm.... I like it. I'm supposed to put the 600 mile break-in on it before he gets home. What do you think... should I ride it?
• It has the full Termi kit and ECU • Speedymoto belt covers and chain cover • Rizomo levers and reservoirs • Lane-splitter mirrors • Fender eliminator and other stuff (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3659/3410479562_ff8bdba654.jpg?v=0) (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3305/3410479560_31ec2090b6.jpg?v=0) (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3564/3410479570_341bf85e89.jpg?v=0) (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3619/3410479564_31ec2090b6.jpg?v=0) Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: Bill in OKC on April 03, 2009, 02:04:48 PM My son just got back from Iraq on the 15th of March. [beer] Ride that bike but don't even put a scratch on it! [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: EEL on April 03, 2009, 02:05:50 PM wow..nice bike
Its ironic that even ducati realized how stupid their exhaust routing was on the stock exhaust from the front header and went back to the original setup Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: Got Duc on April 03, 2009, 02:37:38 PM Nice!
I would have rode the snot out of it. 600 miles.... I would have stopped justlong enough to get the maintenance done. Thank him for serving. My brother goes back for his second tour at the emd of May. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: sfarchie on April 03, 2009, 02:55:12 PM Nice! Take the DB killers out and go for a ride. Since they look like they're still in, note the sound difference and report out! [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: Dr Eti on April 03, 2009, 03:09:28 PM Definitely break it in before he gets back!
So... I just picked up my M1100 in black. I have almost exactly the same mods!!! (Will post picks this weekend) Now, I'm guessing based on what I can see from the license place surround... but do you live in Portland OR and got the bike from MotoCorsa. If so... we should go for ride ;D Dave Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: jftoha on April 03, 2009, 03:56:01 PM Independently of how one feels about the war, I am sure we all agree everyone that has been fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan deserves one of these and more!!
Please thank your son for his service. I am sure you are very proud of him. Now, i think you should ride it for 7,500 miles and really brake it in up for him [moto]. These things only loosen up after about 7,000 miles. So don't be so selfish and run another 500 and get it serviced for your son. What kind of father are you!! ;) Brought home my son's bike this week from the dealer. He is currently in Iraq and has been overseas for 6 years now... but he is coming home for vacation this month. My son will be looking for riding opportunities when he gets back at teh end of the month too. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: Raux on April 03, 2009, 05:52:16 PM woah never noticed the full termi system doesn't use the stock routing of the pipes. interesting. wonder if it's the pipe diameter since it's larger.
personally like the stock... don't like the low hanging pipes, look like a afterthought.. like..... 'crap, where do we put the exhausts... oh just hang it off the bottom" more mods... take off the frame stickers, fork reflectors and powdercoat the headlight frame and rearsets black. tell you son to take it easy. the military is really worried about guys coming back from iraq and getting on bikes. it's a increasingly bad stat. tell him to take 24 hours to relax. then take him out with you.. you lead and lead slow to get him oriented. oh and tell him congrats on the bike. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: swampduc on April 03, 2009, 05:58:43 PM Very nice. You should have that broken in yesterday.
On another note, I'm surprised there were Speedymoto belt covers available. I keep calling them about some for my 696, but they're still not done. Couple more months is what I heard last. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: Johnyonemove on April 04, 2009, 02:24:26 AM Hey guys don't encourage him too much... I do want to ride that when I get home. Good looking out on the pics Spinned, at least I didn't have to try and upload them with the connection I get here :). To everyone else thanks for the comments/appriciation.

Good looking out on the pics Spinned, at least I didn't have to try and upload them with the connection I get here :). To everyone else thanks for the comments/appriciation. welcome. i was serious about taking it easy though the first 24hrs. not sure if they do it in the states but in europe they were not letting guys drive for 24 hrs. you've been over there driving humvees with different rules of the road. takes a bit to get used to. also there tends to be a 'invincible' feeling when returning. not pointing fingers, just want you to be safe and enjoy. the R&R policies aren't as available but for reintegration there is real good info put out. read up on it so you are better informed. then ... take the fork reflectors off ;) Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: DucHead on April 04, 2009, 04:31:31 AM Can I be your son too? ;D
Beautiful bike!! Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: scduc on April 04, 2009, 07:42:08 AM You owe it to him to break it in. I'm sure when he gets home he will not have the patience. He'll probably want to ride it like it's stolen. Thank him for serving and give him his toy in showroom condition.
Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: gearhead on April 04, 2009, 07:57:54 AM Thanks for the pictures. I get mine in the same color next week. I could only afford the slippon Termi kit. Come home safe brother. Thank you for your service.
Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: sbrguy on April 04, 2009, 06:21:29 PM yes break it in afterall he wants to be able to use the "FULL" rpm range when he gets home.
also that is strange that ducati put on the old exaust ruoutnig system on it, i personally like the new one as it looks a lot cleaner in a way with it tucked up next to the tank, maybe not the best for your legs but nicer asethetically teh entier bottom of the bike looks sleeker. but those termi cans in all black and the heat shields are a vast improvement over the stock ones. nice looking bike. damn those new 1100 are growing on me. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: gearhead on April 04, 2009, 07:13:42 PM Definitely break it in before he gets back! Lets see those pics brother.So... I just picked up my M1100 in black. God that bike is sick. Think those belt covers will work on my 696???? do the break in!!!! whole new monster after 6000 RPM's Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: DucatiTorrey on April 06, 2009, 03:08:42 AM oh yeah, my 2 cents, dont powdercoat the rearsets (trashy) but do powdercoat exhaust hangers, and maybe the headlight (still flip floppiong myself on that)
Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: Raux on April 06, 2009, 03:12:23 AM the rearsets is a tough one. in my case the rear swingarm is more grey than black so a black PC would look real wierd. not if i took the swingarm and rearsets and PC'd them... hmmm but that's alot of work and time from riding.
the headlight is a must though. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: mrplease on April 06, 2009, 04:45:12 AM oh yeah, my 2 cents, dont powdercoat the rearsets (trashy) but do powdercoat exhaust hangers, and maybe the headlight (still flip floppiong myself on that) i've got to disagree with you on that one. the best looking bikes on here all have the rearsets powder coated. without them powdercoated the BIG SILVER rearsets stick out like a big sore thumb! and trashy is a poor word to describe it anyway... Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: DucatiTorrey on April 06, 2009, 05:17:09 AM yeah, i gues trashy wasn't a good choice, its just there is a lot of silver on the bike, including the engine, so when some guys PC everything black, its a little blah to me. Now yours MrPlease, with the white, i think that looks, so who knows, the silver may look good too. Dark on Dark on Dark to me looks a little weird. Too Batman ish. Thats one reason im torn on the headlight, i like the balance of silver.
To each his own, but yeah, sorry about the "trashy" comment Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: mrplease on April 06, 2009, 06:43:34 AM yeah, i gues trashy wasn't a good choice, its just there is a lot of silver on the bike, including the engine, so when some guys PC everything black, its a little blah to me. Thats one reason im torn on the headlight, i like the balance of silver. To each his own, but yeah, sorry about the "trashy" comment yeah i for sure see what you mean. i have actually seen one blacked out black 696 that was actually to black for my tastes. its like he blacked out everything including the nuts and bolts. but i actually think all the things on it was painted with a black gloss paint and it just didn't look right to me. i prefer the flat black powder coating on a 696... Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: amcloud on April 06, 2009, 10:20:32 AM Very nice. You should have that broken in yesterday. Couple more months is what I heard last. the 1100DS isn't a new motor and the 696 is...responsible for your delay. Title: Re: Modded 1100S Post by: ducatiz on April 10, 2009, 05:49:32 AM wow..nice bike Its ironic that even ducati realized how stupid their exhaust routing was on the stock exhaust from the front header and went back to the original setup the 'over the clutch' routing of the front header is standard on all the older race bikes. more than likely, it was COST that changed the layout, not because they thought was stupid.
