anyway, i have to park it on the street (in the Mission) right now so i have been putting the disc lock on it and keeping the cover on it at night.
this morning when i came out to go to work i noticed that the cover was only half on.
when i got on it i straitened the handlebars... only the key wasn't in the ignition.
apparently  someone broke the stearing lock and noticed the disk lock afterward. guess they didn't know what to do next.
any suggestions?  a silent alarm? i already got a very big lock that i am putting on the rear wheal now.

Sorry to hear that , if the big lock does not work , I think you need to take a lot of cafein and sniper gun sit by window , now problem solve , we need to scare them sometime.

Sorry to hear that mate! That sucks. They do make Lojack for bikes, as well as alarms. And chaining it to something will usually help.

160round, sorry to hear to hear about somebody trying to jack your ride. That's super lame. You could try doing what I've seen Duckwrench do to his bike and get one of those ridiculoulsy burly titanium Kryptonite locks and chain the back wheel to a fixed object. Depending on the neighborhood parking on the sidewalk might be an issue, but chaining your bike to a meter with one those locks it ain't goin' nowhere. It will deter thieves because they'll see it and not even try, plus it would take three or four large men to lift it over the meter if they the bike that bad. Good luck.

That crap chaps my hide.  Someone stole my lanesplitter mirror a month back, and it was parked at my work right by Union Square.  I'm sure a dozen shoppers and tourists watched the guy do it, too.  Thieves are doo doo.

 i was really thinking a silent alarm. if  i (and my bike) are going down i would rather go down fighting.

i'll order one of them Uber locks that are long enough to reach a fixed object

Cover, disk lock, Kryptonite NYC chain through the rear wheel, Kryptonite 8' cable with mini U-lock through both wheels in a figure 8 fashion, with the U shackle of the lock joining both ends of the cable and both sides of the cover under the bike.  [thumbsup]

Kept my Aprilia Mille RSV-R outside, in Oakland, and never had so much as a mouse get at it.

The more of a pain in the ass it looks to steal, the less likely it is to be messed with. Theft is all about convenience. If it looks like they'll have to "work" at it, they'll usually go elsewhere.

Regardless if they got your bike or not, you should still file a report with  [leo].

I also have a Kryptonite chain and it weighs, what, 5-100 lbs?. Do you actually lug that around wherever you go?

+1 No matter how you chain it to it's self, 2 guys can throw it in a truck and be gone in 3 seconds.

Last year there was a rash of bike thefts; I seem to remember there were a few MV Agustas nabbed. Unlocked inside garages!

It is so wrong to steal someone else stuff  who work so hard to earn it , meantime the more ebay and craigslist use part look up , the more these guys work harder to provide ,  just said it please do not over jump.
