Title: Clutch action on 696
Post by: slim_grizzy on April 04, 2009, 10:51:01 PM
I've got a couple issues with the clutch lever on the 696:

1. It's a bit of a stretch for you hand.
2. There is only a narrow clutch action at the very top.

I'll probably be swapping out the levers to something adjustable to fix #1, but is there anything that can be done to adjust the action of the clutch?  I'd rather have a little more control of the clutch action than just on/off as it feels now.  Also how does the 1100 clutch feel in comparison to the 696 for those who have ridden both?

getting adjustable levers is the only way to change the action. but learn to clutchless shift and it all is moot.

IiI haven't gotten my 1100 yet but some testers have pointed out that it is quite a bit firmer than the 696 and as far as its action Ill assume no news is good news. I for one loved the clutch and never had an issue with levers on the 696 .

I changed my M696 levers to CRG adjustables since it was too much of a reach for me, too. Problem solved. The 2 mods I absolutely recommend for a M696 are the adjustable levers and DP touring seat.

The 1100 is a dry clutch and has a quicker release. I barely let off on the clutch and it rolls effortlessly. If I were to get new levers (but I won't), it would only be for bling. Nowadays, I'd rather spend the money on fuel to hone my riding skills rather than trying to look like I can ride and having 2" chicken strips.

I have a speedymoto pressure plate and springs, that combined with shorty levers makes for a pretty stiff clutch pull.  Definitely a noticeable difference from the 696.  As far as where the clutch lets out, just get used to it and it will become second nature.

I like the on/off wet clutch , and the short levers fit my fingers just perfectly.
And no, I did not got red ones, but titan colored with a red switch..
But they are so much nicer than the Pazzo ones....
