as i am new to the bike world a couple months back and am clueless, i did not winterize my bike. have an 06 monster. besides the obvious of draining the spoiled gas from the tank what else has the tainted gas still in it that is possible to drain? once drained is there a product to run through to clean things out or is it something to be done by hand piece by piece? any type of cleaning this mess up would be appreciated. bike starts, runs not so smooth, then dies after a minute or so. it might be other issues but i figured i'd start with this a move on if needed (i hope not). thanks

All kinds of expensive parts could be hurt by the stale gas. Or not. Fresh gas, maybe splurge for a new fuel filter, pray to the bike gods, and try starting the bike.

Well, aside of the issue that some tard left a bike sitting for a year (no it wasn't me).
not bad, 4 responses and 0 of 2 questions answered (guess that's the same odds of my bike starting for me)
didn't smell the gas on purpose, just dumped it, but when i spilled the gas all over me and the whole garage it smell like........gas.
Your question was answered. Put fresh fuel in it, a new filter might be a good idea, and start it. One you run the old fuel out of the injectors the bike should run fine. If the running problem doesn't clear up then we can go further.
Not sure what you are worried about... Remove old gas, put in new gas and get out and ride. [beer] Don't overthink it. It's 7 months old gas not 7 years old. Stabil would have been nice, but not much you can do about that now.
I don't do a lot for "winterizing myself" put Stabil in the tank in the fall a few days before I put her away for the winter and pull the battery. (I drain the bowls too, but since you are FI, not a concern) In the spring I put in the freshly charged battery, fire up the bike and get out and ride.
Charge the battery, fill tires with air, wax the chain, and punch the start button......go for a ride and refill tank when nearly empty.
The issue of "stale gas" is overblown...just google the topic and see what the refiners have to say (e.g., Chevron, etc.) about it.

That's hilarious. My dad taught me to do that on a fairly frequent basis [evil] and it is some of the most fun advice he ever gave! Never knew it as an Italian Tune Up. He also taught me that you actually have to use the brakes when backing up if you want your e-brake to work. Worked at a go-cart track in HS and we did the same thing at the beginning of every season - WOT until the stutter went away.
