Hey there folks, I am wondering if anyone has experience with these cop bikes. My buddy just picked up a 99' KZ1000 w/ 4000 mi for free. Bike runs great and still has all the cop stuff on it. He wants me to help him make it into a bobber? More of a modern bobber but without the ape hangers. Anyone got suggestions on the maintenence on these bikes? Thanks in advance!
They're good, soild platforms for working. If he's making a bobber, there's plenty of money to be recouped from selling off the police gear too.

its definitely a solid platform. Lots of midrange power where its needed. And I may be interested in taking some of the lights off your hands... [leo]

...for more information than you can shake a stick at. I found that site when I bought my KZ 650.
I used to have a KZ1000J, the precursor to the later police bikes. Good, solid reliable engine, I believe the frame has been beefed a bit for all the extra weight the police bikes carry. Reliable as a stone. They run forever.
Thanks for all the help, and yes make offer on the lights. I will post some pics of the progress. We are supposed to pick up the bike tomorrow..
Hi there. I rode those bikes for nearly 3years. Biggest maintence thing is oil level as they drink a lot. And the other is chain adjustments. The secret with the chain adjustments is the align the marks as you tighten the bolts. It is a tank and a reliable bike. Good luck.
AH,.... KZ's
I dumped one for my Ducati.. LOVE the KZ's Can't say a bad thing about them. They start, they go... always. Love 'em!
