Title: Tires Post by: Dockstrada on May 16, 2008, 02:05:14 AM Fitted the monster with Pirelli Super Corsa Pro this week [thumbsup]
After a long day in the saddle today and considering the condition of the road wet and all I can honestly say they are scrubbed [moto] They were little vague on the edges in the beginning compared to the pilot powers sports which gave me confidence and support from the get go, running them for the last 4 years, I new it was going to be a big change for me with the Pirelli’s ??? As the day progressed, I became more and more confident with the feel from edge to edge but was still hesitant to give it all :-\ Then on the way out of Oberon Monster Mick made a brake for it, I was straight out after him like a greyhound out of the gate, hanging onto him like a suckling piglet :-* :-* :-* Before long I had forgotten about my reservations and was carving the road like I was use to ;D Thanks to Micks dash for freedom I found my rhythm on the new tires [moto] [moto] [moto] [moto] Good on ya Mick [thumbsup] THESE TIRES ROCK [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tires Post by: melvin on May 16, 2008, 04:24:17 AM Then on the way out of Oberon Monster Mick made a brake for it, I was straight out after him like a greyhound out of the gate, hanging onto him like a suckling piglet :-* :-* :-* Before long I had forgotten about my reservations and was carving the road like I was use to ;D wish i wasn't there to see it..........even the tiniest bit i've stayed with you two only by the grace of the cop car in front. the moment he turned, you two were gone.........and i mean gone like "where the make the beast with two backs did they go" gone. when you've decided to stop and wait for us, the lawn-balls brigade, you were in another post code you guys rock!! i want to ride like that when i grow up. ok, tomorrow first step - changing my pilots for pirelli............not that i would notice a difference i myself favour urban guerrilla warfare on a way home, near homebush, i caught up in a heavy evening traffic with a guy on something big and japanese (it's so bloody hard to see after dark with a dark visor) purely because my lane was faster. like showing red cloth to a bull.....it was on in a moment. hihihi wiped the road with a guy - by strathfield he was nowhere to be seen he caught up with me in when i've stopped on a side of city-link in leichhardt to adjust my never_stopping_to_loosen_up seat (btw, must have it fixed one day). he pulled up and yelled >>you're make the beast with two backsin' crazy<<.........then drove off DOING A WHEELIE!!!.............and I AM crazy? ..................hehehe caught him on before anzac bridge, showed him a finger like an adult and mature person that i'm and left him for dead.................yet again and all this on my pilots. maybe i won't be changing to pirelli's after all? I had very little confidence in the tyres until that moment. :-\ At one point Matty and I had swapped rides [thumbsup] Wow what a mistake ??? Matty's bike was so smooth and stable compared to mine dipped into corners with no effort and held the line like it was on tracks [moto] I guess it was the 4 years I had spent on these tyres that was messing with my mind [roll] It was at this point that I thought I had made a huge error swapping to the Pirelli's. [bang] My confidence was shot after that ride :-[ Matty your bike was a pleasure to ride so obedient she is disciplined well [thumbsup] Thanks for the rap Melvin but I must admit again if it wasn’t for monstermick making a dash I would be still going :-[ Title: Re: Tires Post by: goldFiSh on May 16, 2008, 05:22:14 PM mmick tends to bring that out in people! ;D
all done without raising a sweat or moving his arse off the seat! Title: Re: Tires Post by: mattyvas on May 16, 2008, 07:59:34 PM Dock you're welcome as your was equally as amazing, the brakes are like having two parachutes on your back.
And I wasn't even going at all, then touching the throttle was "OMG hold on tight baby" Do see what you mean about fighting it all the time. First corner I dropped into I was like "man this feels like work" but fast fun work. Me I really like my Pilot Power and going up to a 120/70 on the front from the 120/60. Might steer a little slower but not enough for me to notice at my level. What I do notice in the edge grip and the instance response from the rubber, so much better than the stock Pirelli Diablo. I feel about twice as fast going in and coming out of every corner, Melvin don't swap I think you'll regret it for your type of riding. I was wary of the Pirelli on Dock's bike from the chats we'd had about them already and felt exactly as he'd described, nervous about being on the edge. As I say new tyres rocks. And I'm loving the Pilot Power. cheers Matty... You might have been sticking to me like a suckling pig, I dont know if you could hear it but my bike is running like a pig, no drive at all off the turns, popping and farting all the way to the Great Western Hwy, good fun though... I must say I did enjoy the day watching Matty and Rob do their thing, but I must admit, I was a little hungry by Jenolan Caves, mid-week rides are the go. Mmick Title: Re: Tires Post by: Dockstrada on May 16, 2008, 10:18:02 PM Yeah, I'm still coming to grips with them, would like a warm day and a road that I know, just so I know how much edge grip you can get from them. I thought the cops had returned and starting shooting at us [leo] It was great watching the 2 Geeks in action, they Certainly know their stuff [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tires Post by: loony888 on May 16, 2008, 10:46:09 PM nice work guys. i run a power race on the front and a power on the rear, i've been a "michelin man", well, not_literally_, for years, so i'm staying put, but a mate loves his super corsas and i had a go and yeah, nice, just different.
melvin, if you're seat comes loose at the latch, put a couple of washers under the latch between it and the subframe and your problem should be solved. [thumbsup] paul. I have just managed to get off my Bridgestone BT14's (only got 4,000k's out of the back and about 5,500 out of the front) and have gone back to the trusty Pilots - I have actually put the Road 2 on the back and the power on the front. I really looked at the Pirellis and may go that way next time, or maybe the Corsa III though - the Super Corsa Pros look the business but I want a few more k's out of a tyre - Interested to hear how they go! Ciao, R_usty Title: Re: Tires Post by: Dockstrada on May 18, 2008, 03:11:56 AM Man, sounds like you guys had a blast... Title: Re: Tires Post by: bazz20 on May 19, 2008, 03:13:44 AM you can go to the major towns with out [moto] going on the boring hiways
Title: Re: Tires Post by: DosVerde on May 19, 2008, 03:37:16 AM Damn this commuting, I don't need a sidestand anymore the rear is so flat.
I have another Diablo rear on they way. Never tried Pirelli until I got the S4R, they seemed OK so I stuck with them. The Corsa III's are a pretty serious tyre for the road, do they make that much of a difference, or do you guy's running them do track days as well? Title: Re: Tires Post by: melvin on May 19, 2008, 08:29:26 PM And Melvin, back that chain off before you make the beast with two backs up your gearbox. done......went to flywheels today and george was kind enough to do it for me on the spot [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tires Post by: Dockstrada on May 19, 2008, 09:08:01 PM done......went to flywheels today and george was kind enough to do it for me on the spot [thumbsup] Good going Melvin it will feel like you have a totaly new setup. [thumbsup] latch has been fixed as well [thumbsup] actually i've changed the spring for a stiffer one, put a washer at the end and voila! sit is fixed ............now i can start throwing my bike in the corners like a boy-racer. maybe that's what was cramping my style? ;D what style??? he he Title: Re: Tires Post by: goldFiSh on May 20, 2008, 01:15:55 AM 10k :o Cant be many straight roads in your area [moto] I'd agree, I've got about 5000ish from the road rear and the power front, and they're both nearly shagged. Title: Re: Tires Post by: R_usty on May 21, 2008, 02:35:17 AM Now I have a new Pilot Power on the Front and a Pilot Road 2 on the back I am amazed....
Amazed at how much more effort I have to put into turning the bike that I did with the Bridgestones. Anyone else fount this sort of thing - The Powers are nice but I really have to push through the corners. So different to the Bridgestones where I just thought about turning and hey presto, I was through the corner! Title: Re: Tires Post by: mattyvas on May 21, 2008, 02:39:32 AM yeah mine are a little bit slower
but that is cause I am now on a 120/70 not 60 I can deal with that because compared to the Diablo they are GREAT... Title: Re: Tires Post by: bazz20 on May 21, 2008, 03:06:55 AM Now I have a new Pilot Power on the Front and a Pilot Road 2 on the back I am amazed.... It is not the lean angle that is strange - I have a Pilot Power on the front so good lean angle there - it is just way harder to turn into a corner - I think it is more the profile that is different - The Bridgestone BT14's turned in fast..... Just have to get used to it - Will try the Pirellis next time I think Title: Re: Tires Post by: mattyvas on May 21, 2008, 03:55:14 AM Yeah I was thinking about the new Diablo Rosso
I don't need anything more aggressive than that. Only problem was they (Flywheels) didn't have stock of a 160 rear. They were to new to the market. If the Pilot Powers go that quickly I might give them a go next time. Matty... Title: Re: Tires Post by: DosVerde on May 21, 2008, 03:56:28 AM you need to do a trip around tassie dosverde and youse the rest of tour tyres Yeah, I'll put them aside for later this year Bazz. Planning to be down there for a week around Oct/Nov. I agree with the Bridgestones R_usty. I had 014 and then the 015 on my last bike. I could tell the S4R turned in slower/ seemed more stable, I put it down to the bike, but the Pirelli's could be adding to that. The rear especially was a totally different profile, more angular. Title: Re: Tires Post by: bazz20 on May 21, 2008, 03:59:11 AM you have more power than me , just want to know is all the tyre shagged from track days or gone in the centre [moto] [moto]

I'm thinking it may be because I like to come into a corner fast(ish) and then get the bike upright before I give it full throttle on the exit. I don;t mind a bit of slipping when I am leaning over but not too much... :P Title: Re: Tires Post by: goldFiSh on May 21, 2008, 02:34:15 PM so what's the deal with the Diablo Rossos? I'm thinking about my next set and which way I should go..
Already tried: Std Diablos Pilot Power (Front )/ Road (Rear) Any suggestions? Title: Re: Tires Post by: Dockstrada on May 21, 2008, 02:45:17 PM Hey goldfish
I was always happy with the Pilot power sports and was reluctant to change. But now I have changed I can see the benefits in the Corsa pro, it will take a while to get complete confidence back on them but for my type of riding I can see they will certainly do the job [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tires Post by: mattyvas on May 21, 2008, 03:07:39 PM The Diablo Rosso is now the new entry level sport tire.
Softer compound than the old one Pirelli Diablo Rosso (http://www.pirellityre.com/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page?categoria=/catalog/moto/hypersport/none&vehicleType=MOTO&product_id=90919&uri=/pirellityre/en_IT/browser/xml/catalog/moto/MOTO_MV_DIABLOROSSO.xml) For me though I still wanted a change and had to try the Pilot Power, very ;D ;D I'll see how many k's I get out of them and go from there. I got around 10k from my Pirelli's pretty good but I was a bit shy on them for the first 6 months. cheers Matty... Title: Re: Tires Post by: dragonworld. on May 21, 2008, 09:40:35 PM Hmmmmm, have absolutely no probs with the Pilots!! I ran them on my SV1000S and also on my WG RKT ;). And love them, but as I do a shitload of commuter K's I'm thinking of the dual compuonds Bridgies might extend the Pesos without sacrificing performance???
(Yes I want my cake and want to eat it too [thumbsup]) Those that have tried both, watchya reckon?? I have used Bridgestones in the past on race bikes and big roadies and found them to very good, especially when pushed and giving plenty of warning of letting go unlike some other brands especially Dunlop. [roll] Title: Re: Tires Post by: Super T.I.B on May 21, 2008, 11:07:39 PM Soooo, what would be the go for commuting every day to work and back and moderately sticky for weekend blasts?

Title: Re: Tires Post by: Big T on May 24, 2008, 01:08:38 AM I am on my second Pilot Power on the rear and have tested a few different psi and found the following.
Remember that my results are influenced by the following: ~ My S4RT weight (and my weight) ~ My Suspension setup ~ The tire pressure gauge I use ~ My riding style ~ All tire pressures are taken cold in the morning before the ride for consistency. <= 32 psi The bike is a bit of handful in the corners. Need to work at laying it over. The closest I can describe it is like a flat tire. The faster you go the better it feels but still more of a handful to lay over. = 34 psi The sweet spot for me. Bike rolls into the corners and feels great on all surfaces. >= 36 psi Can feel a bit skittish. Especially on rough corners and the like of those tar strips (Old Pacific Highway). Throws into corners okay but can feel a little "slippery". Great tire when dialed in. Will probably try the dual compound Pilot next time on the rear...... [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tires Post by: monstermick58 on May 24, 2008, 01:50:02 AM The Bridgestones were funny - sides of the front tyre were trashed but the centre was fine but for the rear the centre was shagged..... At this stage I would say I would prefer Bridgestone as they dropped into the corners a little bit easier, Pilots have'nt been run in anger... yet, so I will have to wait until the weather is a little warmer before I will throw them right over to see how they feel. Dunlops...... would'nt piss on them Mmick Title: Re: Tires Post by: mattyvas on May 24, 2008, 05:38:51 PM Aren't you on Pirelli Super Corsa Pro's right now Mmick? Not Pilot Power's
Or have you changed since last week's run to Jenolan. Am I confused or have I just mis-read you saying you'll wait till it warms up to throw them over.... Title: Re: Tires Post by: R_usty on May 26, 2008, 02:24:54 AM I went for a ride up the Old Rd and did a good run on our 'private' bit of road - These Michelins are really good. I felt more comfortable and never felt like they were going to let go at any point. They felt really stable at speed and great in the corners!
Pilot Road 2 on the back and Pilot Power on the front = Great combination [thumbsup] Title: Re: Tires Post by: techno on May 26, 2008, 04:44:58 PM Pilot Road 2 on the back and Pilot Power on the front = Great combination [thumbsup] I never thought of mixing them up. Recently put on Pilot Road 2's back and front. New tyres make a big improvement to my cornering confidence. For some reason I like the way the Michelins feel in corners. Title: Re: Tires Post by: dragonworld. on May 26, 2008, 06:25:38 PM Been bit by the mix scenario. :'(
The lesser tyre on the back if you have to do it is the best way to go, but peeling into a corner in a spirited ride and having the front stick nicely and having the back let go aint a pleasant experience. [roll] Down like a sack of shit, bitter personal experience. :-[ I have mixed 'em up for track use but stick to matched sets for road. Only recently on the way to work I came banging into a fave largish roundabout and felt the front end twitch and saw the stain on the road just as the backend "lit up" :o But it stayed nice and progressive and slid nicely until I straightened up on the exit, I know its supposition but if I'd had a lower spec tyre maybe things might have ended up differently. [thumbsup] Shiny side up is always good, and I like the insurance of the better rubber. [moto] Title: Re: Tires Post by: bazz20 on May 26, 2008, 07:08:10 PM i have to agree with dragon, not picking sides just that were i ride theres allways gravel stones road kill or the famous crusher dust where a log truck has split there fuel tank also the dreaded campervan cutting corners so for me i need a lot of conferdence in my tyres, [thumbsup] bazz
