Donnie Unger (DucPond) was talking to someone at VIR the other day about tank issues (swelling, paint probs, etc. possibly due to Ethanol) with Sport Classics. He said Ducati is evaluating them on a case by case basis. I'd give him a call and ask, don't know if he's seen this problem with Monsters or not, but he would know.

I should give them a call.  My tank is heavily rippled in the knee areas, is extremely hard to latch, and barely sits on the frame......

Speed is aware of mine and just waiting for me to find time to take it in.   Bike needs service anyway.

Hey Dan (I think), after our discussions in the OT I noticed the right side of my 1098 tank is warping (Monster tank is steel).  Took it to DucPond, they took pics.  Sent DNA my usual angry email this morning.  Let's see, I think the only thing left to replace on the 1098 is the frame & fairings.

Rick, I've not seen any posts from folks on bikes other than monsters with this problem. I'm taking my bike to coleman in the next week or so to get an insurance estimate, and to talk to the Duc tech again.  The last time I was there, he pointed out the tank swelling problem to me, and said he's seen a few others like that recently.  Said he was gonna contact DNA.  Haven't spoken to him since.

oh, and didn't you get new fairings recently?  where they just for the track day?

Dan

Yeah waiting to here from DNA re my tank.  They said I was essentially pre-approved for a replacement, probably due to all the issues I've had with the 1098.

Only the front fender for the track fairings fit well.  Everything else required such extensive mods (cutting), I gave up on them for the time being.  Fortunately I didn't eat it at VIR, but I think even several old people riding electric wheelchairs passed me.

This has popped up more than a few times over on multistrada.net.  You can do a search there to see what folks have done.
