Title: Tires for my 2004 Jetta. Need Suggestions!
Post by: cyrus buelton on April 09, 2009, 12:27:10 PM
After 65k on the originals, it has come time for some new rubber for the Jetta.

About 85% of the driving is highway, with the remainder (obviously) city driving.

I am looking for a durable tire, but nothing fancy. Just something with a decent price and will last for at least 50k miles.

My brother just replaced the tires on his Audi and got them for 80$ a tire mounted and his rims are bigger, so I am guessing I should be able to find some tires in the 60-80$ range.

thanks all!

Whats up man, how was Florida?

When I worked at Byers we put a lot of Kumho's on the Jettas and A4s.  Pretty much an all around good tire.  I have a set that I got off an A4 that already had 15k on them and I've put about 25k on them and they are still wearing well and have a decent amount of tread left.  Probably going to run you more than 80 a tire though.  What kind of tires did your brother get?  Seems like a pretty cheap set of tires for an Audi to be running.

Also, I would stay away from Falken tires.  They wear fast and are really crappy.  I would just go to Tire Discounters.  I think they have the best service and prices.  If you get any ideas let me know and I'll fill you in on if they do well on VW's

I'm a huge fan of Hankook tires.
I had a set on my 88 Mustang that made it an entirely different car.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com (http://www.discounttiredirect.com) is a Hankook wholesaler, so they have great prices on Hankook tires.
Free shipping on a set of 4, plus they offer Road Hazard protection at like $8 a tire. Covers anything but burnouts. Free replacement.

Florida was great  [thumbsup]

He got them onsale at the Tire Rack, not sure if they exist here in Ohio.

It has Michelin Z rated tired on it now. When I got a flat a few years back, it was 140$ a tire.

Ouch.

I'm quite happy with the Conti Touring Contact tires on my Jetta.

I second the Kuhmos.  I've had Ecsta Supras on my WRX and 80K rubber on there, both by Kuhmo...  Just buy for your needs.  They even make gravel tyres!!
