Title: Thunderhill PTT May 10th
Post by: remy on April 09, 2009, 08:18:51 PM
I won a track day on BARF and am going to Thunderhill on 05/10  [moto]
Is anybody else going that week? I'm hoping it's a dry day.

Congrats!  You shouldn't have too many worries about rain at that point.

I'm not going, but I bet there's already a thread about it started up on BARF.  I'll keep my eyes peeled.  There's usually a few fun people headed out to the track on any given Spring day.  I'll let you know if I see of anyone that I can recommend you buddy up with for company.

Edit:  I see you've already started one over there.   [laugh]

Jup! I started the thread on that forum as well. I just wanted to check-in here to see if any Monsters would be out there. I was the only one last time I went.  8)

My wingman and I have been discussing a revisit to THill. Always a task between our two schedules but maybe on a sunday would be easier. PTT = Pacific Track Time? I'll check their openings and costs...

EDIT: How's that swingarm stand holding up?  ;D

Hey, I use the stand all the time. It would be cool if you came out that day. Let me know if you decide to.

Oh, and yeah, PTT = Pacific Track Time

I won a political Photoshop contest back in November.  8) Budman hooked me up with a PTT day of my choice, which is awesome because I lost my job in January and probably wouldn't have made it to the track at all this year if it it weren't for this.

I will. I figure I can splurge for a photo cd since the day itself is free.

The weekend can't come fast enough.

So my second track day went awesome! I learned my lines very early in the day and none of the corners that used to scare me did this time. Because of that, I was able to focus on much needed body position improvement.

Throughout the day I felt like I rode consistently smoother and therefore faster. By my last session out the only people that could pass me were an S2R1000, Mille, GSX-R 1000, and a 998. Even then I could brake late, carry faster speeds through the turns and catch up to them about a turn later to either be bogged down or make the occasional pass! I would of course be passed right back up on the first straight section after that.  [laugh]
I have to say though, being able to keep similar times to other C group riders on much faster bikes made me feel great.

I saw a ton of Ducati's out there this time including at least 4 other Monsters. I talked to a few of the riders and they were all really nice people and I noticed a lot of improvement from all of them throughout the day as well.  [thumbsup]

Here's a comparison of me in turn 2 on my first track day and then one from yesterday, my second day. I have a lot to work on still. My next day I'll focus on getting my upper body off more and my outside leg tucked in better so that my lower half can come off further and more easily rotate my inner leg/knee outwards. Hopefully that will allow me to keep the bike from scraping the hard parts as much while allowing me to get on the gas a littler earlier/harder coming out of the turn.
