Title: M696 instrument cluster, water/weather-proof?
Post by: peanut_man on April 13, 2009, 06:29:01 AM
Hello,

I'm getting an 09 Monster 696 this week (hopefully).  Having own a Multistrada before, I wanted to check if the instrument cluster / dash on the M696 is truly water or weather proof?  On the Multistrada, it's a well know issue that the cluster is likely to get water leak in a downpour.  Not that I plan to ride in the rain, but wanted to know how much precaution I need to take?

Thanks for the advice.

+1  Also been in the rain several times no issues. Washed the bike several times, was a little timid with the hose at first (heard rumors of electrical troubles and to be careful). Now I hose it down just like the car. So far no problems.

From my understanding, you do not want it to stay wet for too long.  I have heard that water can even get into the dash on the 696 if exposed to water for too long.

I guess that would be the difference between water proof and weather proof.  :)

I think the official term then is "water resistant" kinda like you see on watches.
