Title: m1100 air temp Post by: gearhead on April 13, 2009, 08:13:45 PM Why would Ducati do away with the outside air temp display on the M1100? I can't make sense of it.
Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: Holden on April 13, 2009, 09:08:30 PM Mine isn't exactly accurate, anyway... especially after sitting still. I'd rather be rid of it and save a couple grams. [cheeky]
Just one explanation. Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: Speeddog on April 13, 2009, 09:27:02 PM Mine isn't exactly accurate, anyway... especially after sitting still. I'd rather be rid of it and save a couple grams. [cheeky] Just one explanation. Is there a seperate sensor for it, or does it piggyback off of the existing sensor? Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: Holden on April 13, 2009, 10:55:06 PM No idea. I just know that it's about as reliable as the weather report.
Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: hcomp on April 14, 2009, 03:54:12 AM Thats alright, after I installed my oil cooler on my 696 it is reading about 5-10 degrees hotter from the heat coming from the cooler. So yeah its basically useless.

Um, you're riding a motorcycle, how the hell wouldn't you know if the outside air is cold or warm ~

Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: Raux on April 15, 2009, 10:26:08 PM i use my air temp during cold weather riding for possible road conditions. anything below about 34 or 36 i watch out for over/underpass icing. so there is a use.

Yep, I was gonna say the same, I wish I had that on my bike to know to watch for ice. 35 and 45 both feel really cold to me but there is a difference in what the road will be like. Having heated gear on makes it even harder to tell. Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: alligator on April 18, 2009, 04:58:05 AM I rode recently when it was about 35 degrees. It should just say "F'ing Cold!" at that temperature. Anything more than a few minutes of riding and you freeze.
Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: red baron on April 18, 2009, 07:39:34 AM Why on earth would you ride a moto at 35 degrees?

More so than obama is christ's answer for America. Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: woodyracing on April 18, 2009, 08:32:25 PM Ducati probably realized there are about a dozen people that will use that display and thus decided to leave it off of the 1100...

If I know the temps will be under 40 (via weather on local news or checking it online for the estimates for the day) I assume I could encounter ice. I've ridden home in the snow before ~
JM Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: hcomp on April 19, 2009, 04:41:43 PM I have found that the air temp gauge on the 696 is great for observing the delta between the oil cooler! It was 99F here today!!! While riding on the street my air temp said it was 117F!! So I suppose from where the oil cooler is to where the air temp sensor is mounted in slow traffic there is a delta of 18F..... It sounds like your old high school math class.... Johnny rides his 696 Monster from his hometown to the race track. He travels an average speed of 20 MPH. The ambient air temperature is 99F. His useless air temp senor indicates 117F. What is the difference?
Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: somegirl on April 19, 2009, 06:56:42 PM Why on earth would you ride a moto at 35 degrees? Temps can vary widely in the mountains at different locations and different times of the day. My bicycle has a thermometer on it. One ride I did 2 weeks ago I saw temps from 33 to 81. Today they varied from 55 to 100. And the other answer is...you are way too spoiled living in San Diego. Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: gearhead on April 20, 2009, 07:35:33 AM Quote Ducati probably realized there are about a dozen people that will use that display and thus decided to leave it off of the 1100... Most impressive, the open mindedness of some. Your ability to think outside this thread\forum is only surpassed by foresight in knowing what the vast majority of Ducatisti desire in a motorcycle. I feel better now for not letting it be known my secret wish for a gear position indicator be included. One can only guess at the weight savings this would afford. [laugh] Title: Re: m1100 air temp Post by: ungeheuer on July 08, 2010, 03:16:17 AM Go buy the Termi Full exhaust system with Racing Evo ECU and........ viola!!! The air temp readout is baaaaaack - just as it was on your 696. And just as useful too [laugh]
