Title: Your high school car (or dream car)
Post by: ducatiz on April 14, 2009, 06:12:25 PM
Has to be real, and is/was available.

I had a 1977 Celica GT liftback . I loved that car.  Besides doing everything I could on my meager income to hop it up, it was the best kitty magnet in the world.

This car is nearly identical, except mine was black

Senior year of HS, a buddy of mine told me about a mechanic that he worked with wanting to unload his Chevelle....."its blue with white stripes" is all he told me.

When I saw it,  I had to have it.  1972 Chevelle SS454 Convertible clone, blue with white stripes and a white top, cowl induction hood and black interior.  I bought it for $3500 that I saved up painting houses.

Purchased in Feb of 88, caught on fire August of 88.  Sad day.  Wish I had it now.  Some day Ill find another one.....

leaky fuel lines, i bet.. a lot of those gm era had shitty rubber.

i had a 71 Buick Skylark GS, which si the same body and nearly the same engine as that chevelle.  i put a holley carb on it and the fuel line crumbled, so i replaced all the rubber lines i could find!

My first car

Mustang yes. Real Mustang no.

My friend though had parents who loved him and got him a real babe magnet to drive in High School, so I always made him drive.

1969 Cougar convertible. I still love that car. He sold it before I could buy it for myself and restore it.

actual car:   shit brown 1970s ford LTD with seven seatbelts and vinyl seats (also shit brown).   Had one window track busted so wooden wedges held up the passenger side window.   Had one blinker as a dangling bulb with no lens on it.   Slipped between first and second in the auto trans so you had to floor it and then let off quickly for it to go thunk into second...otherwise it would just slip forever.

loved it.

dream car?   one girl at school had a dad who owned an exotic car dealership.   She occasionally drove this one red 911.  customized slant nose so the front end just disappeared without those traditional 911 lights.   I can see that car in my head to this day.   It might help that her HS boyfriend was an ass so I was the rebound sensitive band geek scrawny but good listener type senior year then....I learned to heal and toe in that car (and as a gentleman I will say that is all I learned)

;D

1984 Alfa Romeo GTV6  2.5 V6 black leather interior
(http://www.alfagtv6.com/gallery2000/images/miseo1.jpg)

It was my dream car, and I saved up working construction jobs for two years to buy it.  That car definitely helped me pull some quality tail.  I was also one of six people in my highschool to have a car so you could say it stood out a little.

I ended up giving the car away a few years ago because it was sitting, broken down, in my parents driveway.

82 dodge diplomat. Mine was hit by a snowplow in the driver's front quarter panel. It was power everything, and when it stalled for absolutely no reason we could figure out, all power went out. I learned how to pull myself down on a brake pedal with that thing.

First car: A hand -me-down 1966 VW beetle that my dad bought new in '66. He paid $1700 for it new. 6-volt electrical, AM radio, anemic heater, and the optional passenger side mirror. By the time I got my license(1979), the running boards had rusted off, and the speedo had quit at 126,000 miles a few years back. That little beast would not die. Snow, mud bogging, I could not kill it. And my father would not let me have another car until that one died.
Finally got rid of it when I turned 18.
Funny, I kinda miss it now . . .

But I always took the position that I should have all of my toys young, while I could enjoy them. I always laughed when I saw a gran'pa driving a Corvette or 911, traveling 5 miles under the limit.
After the bug;
1970 Jaguar XKE 2+2
1969 Fiat Spider
1977 Corvette
1984 Maserati Biturbo
1980 Porsche 911 SC
1976 Fiat Spider
1980 Fiat Spider
And so on.

For the past few days I've been fixing an 88 928 s4. It had electrical and vacuum gremlins. This car has 14,000 miles and needs at least another 10 grand worth of work to fix all the other problems including replacing the original timing belts.  928s are great cars when they aren't broken, but they usually are.

But I had this '57 Falcon instead:

OK, there was no Falcon in '57, it started out as a Ford Custom, but I shortened it considerably.

My first Car. Bought when I was 15. Amazing what mowing lawn for four years will get you.

My daily driver when I turned sixteen was a hand me down from my older sister

Could NOT kill that damn car. It was indestructible.

After that came a 99 ford ranger, 99 dodge ram 1500, and currently a 98 oldsmobile 88  ;D

Still have the firebird tho.

I built my HS dream car. It was an 88 Land Cruiser on which I swapped out the engine for the EFI TRD of the '02. Also put on it:

35's
Bumpers,
5:13 gears
6 inches of lift  [evil]
Snorkel

I think I spent more time wrenching on the car than actually driving it, but it was damn fun.

This was me three years ago:

This was my dream car at the time.

oddly enough, I owned one later, and grew to hate that car. It was all I could do to keep it running, and once while on a date, the pice of shit sunroof decided it dodn't want to shut all the way just as it started raining. I went to stop at a red light and the water from the roof just poured on me, while this was happening the windshield wiper on drivers side decided it wanted to stop working too. Next day I bought my GTI and sold the SLC to my brother for make the beast with two backsing cheap.

This is just like what I had, but with a black painted top. It was my dream car and I got it at the beginning of my Jr. year.

Jebus, I loved that car.  But I recently bought one of these little black bull dogs (Dodge srt4) for my 16 yo daughter that will would have handily out run the muscle cars of the time.  And my God, I love the little Neon - it's additive! What a make the beast with two backsing rush to drive. At $9000 and a new engine it's the most car for the money I've ever driven.

My first car was a 1974 VW Thing

It had a hole in the floor boards behind the driver seat that was used at various times (by passengers) as a spittoon,  urinal, and ashtray.

Before I got my own car, I used to drive my mom's 88 ford conversion van. That thing was fun. It had switches in the headliner between the driver and passenger just like the millenium falcon. My friends nicknamed it "the honeywagon". Unfortunately, I had early-onset nerddom, so no great stories of pulling tail in a van w/ a fold down bed and curtains.

Dream car at the time was far more exotic than a 450hp 80 Z28...

My Camaro was my namesake. License plate was ZLTFUL and it followed me to my 260Z.

My first car was not new when I got it, but closely resembled this Firebird:

Dream car at the time (and still):

Had one. Dry sump all aluminum V-6 twin turbo. Ran great and was fast as balls if the weather cooperated. Otherwise, it was the biggest hassle POS I ever had.

That car was guaranteed to overheat on any day over 95F, otherwise I had 0 problems.

The blowoff valves on mine were finiky as hell. Over 80-85 degrees the thing overheated even while moving, in traffic, forget it, pull over and wait for the road to clear. Find a bar and  [drink]
In cold weather(Below 55), the damn thing fouled plugs constantly. It finally blew a rod thru the block one hot summer day when I didn't pull over fast enough. Have you ever tried to rebuild that motor? Total nightmare - All the fasteners are hex and torx.
