Title: Minnie lives!
Post by: brad black on April 16, 2009, 05:31:07 AM
poor minnie monster had been sitting unloved since the last time i rode her, around the middle of november, both at home out in the weather for a few months and at the factory for the past few weeks.  so today i had a quiet day due to a guzzi not showing up so i ignored the thousand important things to do and played with minnie.

i figured there was a fuel issue as that's what it felt like.  riding along then burrrrr.  so i checked the vacuum fuel tap, which is doing a nice impersonation of a hose joiner without impedment.  then out a piece of clear fuel hose off the pump so i could see if fuel was coming out of there - it was.

which left me a bit flumoxed.  she'd start, run like crap, not rev unless you did it really slowly and die.  so i thought about ignition.  i swapped in a new ignitech box, which made no difference, then fitted a new ignitech loom which left out my additions of map sensor (tps mimic) and tacho take off.  fixed!  so i hooked in my loom again and started unplugging things.  turns out it's the map sensor.  dunno why, but it makes it run like crap with it plugged in.  the ignitech software didn't show much sense of it, just wacky shit going on.

so with map sensor unplugged, 4 month old fuel drained from the float bowls and 20psi in the front tyre (note to self, check tyre pressures before the ride) we went for a thrap.  i did contemplate fitting the megacycle mufflers for a more fun (ie, wheelie friendly) ride, but couldn't be bothered so we went with std.  still got a wheelie out of her and she ran great.

so a nice waste of an hour or so in the end.  she really is a nice little bike to ride, and goes pretty well for a 750.

Good news Brad...  Yay for Minnie :)

Just for info...

My mate Bob on his GS1200 Adventure is currently in Broome all going well.   After one very hot day and 1000kms of high speed running he had a minor oil leak from his final drive...  But it seems to have settled down..  9800km down and more than half way around...

If you're wheeling a 750 I know there's a reason why you don't go near the 4 valves....although you'd save money on front tyres!

good to hear.

bloody Moto Guzzi owners.....must of them don't even know what year it is, let alone the day!  ;D

The 7fiddy is great bike, tops in traffic even with the quirky carbs. And you can push it without any reall worry about wheelspinning, sky reaching, tank slapping underpants staining misbehavior.  [evil]  :o  [thumbsup]  [moto]

So the rear drive leak wasn't as bad as he was anticipating?  He sounded like he was ready to put it on a truck when he rang.

Nah, its exactly what I was expecting cause I've been to your blog once or twice! Just looking for a larger version, but it'll do!

Ah yes...  That was the first leak the bad one!!

He had a seal replaced in Cairns and that solved that bad leak...  However he was still getting a small amount of oil leaking after the run into Darwin and was getting worried again..   But he's now in Broome and things seem to have settled down..

it's a beemer....the bad news: big oil leak.....but look at the good news: the heated handgrips, motorised adjustable windscreen, motorised ass massaging seat, heated mirrors and the wine cooler are all working perfectly!
