Title: M696 Oil Drain question

I am taking a crack at changing the oil on my 696 and need a little advice. The diagram shows that it is the bigger of the two "bolts" farthest from the oil filter, what size allen key to I need for it? My sets stops at one bigger than the one that fits the mirror allen.

Sorry for the real noobie question, but I like to triple check that I am going to do something correctly on my bike.

Thanks, I searched all over in pdf and my manuals...had one of the those days where I just needed to step away from everything.

you can always ride up to somewhere like Lowes and ask to have a sales assistant walk out with you so you can bring wrenches out to the parking lot, try them, and buy the one that fits....if you run into this problem frequently.

Is this the bike's first oil change?  Even though the manual only specifies removing /  cleaning the oil screen every 12K (don't quote me, it might be longer), I'd do it anyways.  I just changed mine (696 also) at 2500 miles and there were still metal particulate / debris in it.  That will require a 14mm hex to remove.  It is the big one below the sight glass.  You should also invest in a torque wrench as it is easy to stip bolt holes out on bikes.  I believe the torque specs for the drain plug and the screen should be around 30-33 ftlbs.  Here's a good link on the oil change for our bikes with pics so you can't f it up!
