I had my first LUGADUC experience on the freeway today, 5-10MPH for 15 minutes, quite painful, but I made it. I have a 14t sprocket in the front as well, can't imagine playing LUGADUC with a 15t, YIKES! Not built to go slow.
wtf is a LUGADUC?
Sorry, as in to lug the engine, I was just thinking of what to call it while it was happening, and thought lug-a-duc, hence lugaduc!

you're quite the cunning linguist, bp.
gregrnel, a 620 with a 14t front is by far the kindest Duc on which to get stuck in bad traffic. Not likely to get too much sympathy from this crowd unless you are a petite female.
start squeezing.

or cry, you obviously never been lugaduc for an hour at 5mph on a dry clutch bike.i cnat even feel my arm after thats done.
It's not the clutching, it's just trying to keep it going nice and steady. All I'm saying is driving in slow traffic is smoother on a Japanese 4, however I'll never go that way again.
5'6" 150# 15 BMI, so, I guess I am petite [thumbsup]

maybe the DMF can get gripmasters in bulk at a discount and print the DMF logo on them.
on a more serious note, if people don't want to (or can't) lane split in those situations, you can vary your hold on the clutch...switch from full hand to middle and index finger and back. Hold all the way out at bar end switching to all the way in tight...pull with fingers versus rotating your hand down to squeeze more with fleshy part at base of fingers on lever... should be able to survive a few hours that way.

ahhh...but clutch work is how to do that...should be able to crawl along at slower than walking speed at a consistent crawl with feet up on pegs at any rpm. Just takes practice.

...or play with your speed and distance between the cars to just coast in neutral for a lot of the time. ;D I don't mind the heavy Duc clutches...but my hand does get tired after a bit.
yeah, yeah....I know being in neutral at any time can be dangerous per the MSF course. I only do it in really slow traffic when the risk is minimal. ;)

So true.
hell, I got stuck with construction coming home from DC one time at night and after the state trooper pulled me over and told me I couldn't lanesplit (and then pulled in behind me in the stopped traffic) I just turned it off and paddled it (slight downhill thankfully). Oddly he didn't then yell at me for having no lights on...I figured he wouldn't hit me.
safety stuff is all scenario dependent...no rules cover everything. ;D

Try it with a big boy clutch. Short levers make it even more fun.

But I thought you were serious. I'm about to get my first dry clutch machine, so I'd definitely buy a DMF Gripmaster ;)
I was actually thinking of designing a clutch slave to make the pull even harder. We need to seperate the bacon eaters from the quiche eaters.
Quiche....haha....what would we do w/o the Frenchies
Statler. I gotta say that is the hardest thing I have ever done on a bike. Rolling along at slower than walking speeds with feet on the pegs on a highway. I have only put 500 miles on my m800. But I must say after that, my confidence in stop and go traffic in town increased 20 fold.
Thanks Ducati

Another helpful hint I picked up at the MSF ERC course - "Drag" the rear brake at slow speeds. It really helps to stabilize the bike. [bacon]
I have never understood this. WTF is so girly about quiche? It is egg and cheese and, if done correctly, bacon. It's delicious.
Amorphous mound of scrambled eggs with stuff mixed in = National Breakfast of America
Eggs with the same stuff mixed in, in a pie crust = gay breakfast terrorism
Why? ???
+1 on dragging the rear brake. Also, if you are coming from an I4, you might need to adjust to the different powerband a bit more before you find your low-speed traffic groove.
its the pie crust...
and the baking in the oven thing.
It's also traditionally made with Bette Midler blasting in the background.

Pansies! All of you! Try a 1098 in stop and go traffic with SS Springs [bang]
I don't know what everyone's talking about. On my '75 Norton, the clutch pull was so hard that the far-end cable ferrule kept pulling off and falling into the bottom of the gearbox. I finally got tired of buying new factory cables and had a custom heavy-duty cable fabricated that worked like a charm after that. No telling how many ferrules were rattling around in the gearbox when I finally sold that bike, though. :-[
But that's what I was used to, so I never thought twice about it. :)

I assume that you are in a state where you can't split lanes. One of the reasons I like to ride motorcycles is that I don't wait for anyone or any traffic, down between the lanes all the time.

;D ;D
Might be a stupid question but why would have Stainless steel springs make the clutch harder to pull.
Are the springs harder than stock (and thus makes it harder to pull the cluch in) ?
I ask becasue I just bought some SS springs for the scoot [clap]
How long have you been riding your duc?
The clutch was fine on my S2R. slow speed drop, and all the dealer had was CRG clutch lever. Took a week or two to get used to.
(note to self - note names for arm wrestling shots at DIMBY!)

after i broke my clutch hand it gets bad in traffic. i have learned to pp it into N very quickly and coast for a bit to rest the hand.
also, the clutch on my XR and my duc are about a 200lb pull. you get used to it.
The triumph is much better.
eggs should not be served in a crust. doing so only takes something normal and good and over complicates it for no reason at all.
souffle has no crust. is that not-gay?
Wait... crust is defined as what? cause if dimsum is considered to have a crust, i better find me a boyfriend fast, because id be a flamming homosexual.

I dont think the 620 had the APTC clutch like the S2R and 695, because the later two bikes have such a light clutch pull, its mind boggling.
