At least the animals in (American) zoos are getting fed and not being beaten.   :-\

That isn't true with every zoo around the world.

I don't really have a position on whether zoos should exist, but this isnt really a reason to have them.

they claim "research" go into the their habitat and do your make the beast with two backsing "research' from there.

captive breeding programs artificially maintain biological material that would otherwise go extinct due to human interference. Yet if bred and born and raised in captivity, is that animal REALLY representative of that animal?

Zoos have programs that use a portion of the gate to buy land for nature preserves and animal rehabs. There are several shades of gray here. Sure, it's exploitative, but that exploitation does do good work.
