I've seen this on many Ducatis, but never seen it being put to use.
What's under there? Is it of any use on other models with the same controls?
Can you think of anything to put there?

its my understanding that its for a switch that turns your lights on and off. however, most of us live in areas where it is illegal to operate your bike without your lights on.
you could put in a Garage door opener button. I've seen some people wire one into their Hi-Beam Flasher switch...
Here's a similar mod...

It would be cool to put a heated grips switch there
Thumbprint scanner for security.

Wrong side/switch for that.
Nope. That is where is goes on the late model Ducati. I installed a euro switch on my S4R and there is a switch there that turns of the headlight and the tail light.
Absolutely nothing!
Uuh huh!
Say it again ya'all!
Unused space/cover under the kill switch.
HUH!
Yeah.
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
The new PowerCommander V thats coming out soon for the 696 will give you the ability to toggle between two fuelmap settings. Doesn't come with a switch though, you gotta be crafty and make it yourself.
Sounds like it's just begging to get put in there.
Oil slick button ?

I think I'll put a dummy switch there and wait for the right moment ....... guy comes up to me and asks; what is it good for?
You know, times have changed. That used to be the ash tray. ;)

Put a switch to a fart machine with a time delay. When someone asks, push it, then wait about 5 seconds, then hear a faint fart, and give them a dirty look.

On my old ST3 the empty slot was a switch for emergency flashers.

Is the stock harness wired for the light switch on the side?
The left switch sure, but the right switch also?

Yes, the wires are there but not used. You just plug the new switch into the factory harness.
Huh. On my '01 the switch is designed to be on the left side.
The stock US switchgear even has an obvious jumper wire on the connector.
Hey! Does that switch that goes there have it's own part number? Anyone know what years and models it was on?

They changed on the later models. My 2004 uses this setup.

The switch does not have it's own part number. You have to buy the whole assembly. I don't have the part number but your local dealer can order it. I think they changed in 02, I know the 04 and newer use it.
Dammit, I want that switch for my heated grips!

You can still buy the whole assembly and just tap into the wires you need.

Agreed. Mine uses the older left-side switch setup. I just ordered that part from Commoto. Helps significantly on bikes that didn't have the headlight-interrupt circuit (older bikes).
