Title: WMD Switch gear (or A monkey off my back) Post by: Drunken Monkey on April 26, 2009, 07:08:56 PM A while back I bought a set of 'micro' switchgear from Willies' Moto Design.
The good news: they are tiny, the wires leading to them are microscopic and the give a really clean look. The bad news: The control box wasn't really suited to the bike (very different set-up) and WMD has since gone out of business. Still, after much fiddling, many diagrams, more than a few hours pouring over the wiring diagram. A few prototypes and a few dry runs I got them installed. The whole enchelada (http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs010.snc1/2888_74776623682_747898682_1825507_7751688_n.jpg) Start and kill switch. Overall, I'm happy with the very minimal visible wires, and low profile of these controls, if not the effort required to make it work. Still, as a side effect of the electronics & relays installed I now have running lights, self canceling turn signals and 4 way hazards. Further clean up of the hoses and other wires should give the bike a Really, really clean looking front [thumbsup] Title: Re: WMD Switch gear (or A monkey off my back) Post by: JEFF_H on April 26, 2009, 07:49:14 PM what switchgear?

Now that I've fixed the 3rd photo, you will see the word "Rizoma" on the grip. Too bad that their installation was such a hassle (and the company is OoB). Title: Re: WMD Switch gear (or A monkey off my back) Post by: Drunken Monkey on April 27, 2009, 07:42:42 AM For anyone who's contemplating something like this, my advice is to redo a large part of your wiring harness through one of these:
(http://www.motogadget.de/de/graphic/m_unit/munit_53b_gb_250.jpg) The mUnit from motogadget. (http://www.motogadget.de/en/m_unit.html) Despite getting all this working without one, I may well switch to using the mUnit in the future. How hard are they to operate while wearing gloves? Really easy. It takes just very subtle but firm pressure on the 'nipple' to activate the signal (fnarrrr huh huh). And the buttons and 'nipple' are raised enough to still be felt through gloves. They're auto canceling, so operation is pretty easy. And the signals don't cancel when the brake is on, so they don't self-cancel when you're stopped. The only problem I have right now is that it's best to let the signals auto cancel rather than canceling them manually. The manual cancel is a bit off, as it's hard to judge how long you need to hold the button to make that happen. And my signal idiot light is out, so it's a bit weird to take it on faith that the signal has canceled. Still, it's on a 5 second timer, so they cancel fast. |
