Got the CA-Cycleworks 14T front, wanting to go 45 in back, Green light? Or do not pass go? I should be able to keep original chain for now correct? Speed shouldn't be an issue, still enough umph to get on the Interstate. Cool beans, thanks for any input.
Edited to go 45, conflicting info on oem gear.
edit: i need to count my freaking teeth.
43 is a very close fit for my (non stock) chain guard. Other than that I think it would work.
Chris at CA said "Stock gearing is 15/42 and you can go up in the back about 2 teeth until you need a longer chain." Mine is an 07, not the best at this so bare with me, going to a 14t gave a little low-end right? Now going from 42(which I am guessing is stock) to a 44 would also be a little more low-end, that could be a start by finding out stock gearing. I have faith in Chris though so I am going with it.
Ran 14/42 on my OEM 525 for 10K w/no complaints. Recently switched to 14/43 w/QC during 520 conversion and it rocks. [bow_down] Also have a 44t that I'll be wringing out soon.
hmm...i should have double checked my rear before opening my mouth, i think 43 is correct. i apologize for not checking first.

Thanks Stoppy.
No apoligy needed, all good stuff. So it would act peppier? But with the new info, is one tooth all that much of a change? With little under 1000 miles I am hoping to catch the chain and spreckets early enough that they wear together. Yeah, now that you bring it up, the Quick Change, is that good to have for schitzer and giggles, or play a bigger role too? Spendy, but what isn't these days ??? Especially if it carries an Italian DNA

Thanks for the info, but I can't leave well enough alone.

So now I am really scratching my head with this brick! [bang]
Ideas?

;D Neither can I. Even on that site they have 15/43 for the S4R 2007. Check again?
I have contacted Cycleworks, I guess AFAM does not list an 07 S4R, only S version. So I am guess that gearing is the same, sprocket wise anyway.
Geesh Candice at Cycleworks is awsome at replying, it must be a 15/43. She wrote this back, "Yes, a 45 is the last size you can go up before having to buy a new
chain ;) Chris just left so I can't ask what changed on the S4RS, but I am sure it is minor lol."
So I guess I need to change the top, Anybody run a 14/45 :D This stuff is awsome, all to tweak something that doesn't need it, just to see if it can be done. Kinda like Jurrasic Park.
I'll let you know the differences between final gearing S4R vs S4RS if, and only if, you change your avatar [puke] ;) OMG
;D
(btw - same same 15/43)
...............................
14 vs 15 is about 7%. 45 vs 43 is about 5%. So, you'll reach any given power about 12% sooner than with the stock set up. You'll have to engage the next gear sooner (takes time), but it will be quite a bit quicker - at least in theory. With the awesome power of the S4R - is there really a need for both the 14 front and the 45 rear?
Sorry StopInTime, the Avatar is an extension of my past(and here it is again because you forced me to reply). OK not only did I like the cheesy show, I lost a best last year and had to get a man-perm, and the joke was I looked like the HOFF! So not only does it make you qweezy, you can now picture a dude riding around, like a "minnie me!" to the legend himself. [moto]
OK, the Duc does not need it agreed, but if poeple left things at stock or well enough, there wouldn't be any garages or need for message forums, only repair shops that sell OEM knockoffs. And our wives would just spend the money faster than we could. Just need a reason to stay in the shop and sip moonshine.
Well neither AFAM or F B F makes a 45 toother, at this point. But Cycleworks says there is one on the way in a bit.
Thanks 2-wheelers!
I unwillingly accept your avatar explanation [evil]
I totally accept your mod philosophy [thumbsup]
I know the stock size for the late S4R is 15/43. I currently have a 43t rear on my S2R1000 that came from an 07 S4R. Much better than the 41 that came on mine stock. I just bought a 520 set from Chris in 15/44...
I would do one first and then the other. You might find that the change between a 15/43 and a 14/45 is so drastic that you don't like it but if you gradually step up to it by changing first the front and then the rear you'll like it more.
Thanks Eric, yeah I guess I can wait a bit. I plan on going to a 45 when one is released, I think Stealth is working a one piece.
StopInTime, yeah I tried to explain it, but you hit the nail on the head. I just like the pic, I laugh everytime I see it. I am sure you will be happy to know that the Hoff will recover from his minor bout with alcohol poisoning this past weekend. ;D
