Title: Got a fix it ticket for no turn signals on Saturday
Post by: Coyote Kid on April 28, 2009, 02:15:12 PM
Cruzin thru Berryessa on Saturday and de man was out in force,
6 of em were pulling over everything that was moving.

I got nailed for having no rear turn signals (mine are integrated into the stop light) I think my  small fronts are also illegal,
and no reflector below the plate.

Does anybody know what the legal specs are for turn signal size and separation distance?.

The cop warned me that fixing it and then removing them again, if caught a second time, would constitute a non compliance ticket that is a 1 point infraction.

Thanks,
Coyote

I got pulled over once and it was because the cop said he could not see my license plate.

He then proceeded to give me a warning for my exhaust and also my rear turn signals which are the Rizoma Zero ones. They actually stick out like normal turn signals. He said that I cant have after market turn signals on my bike  [roll]

He told me to be careful and that its only a warning what ever that means.

In any case the ticket was complete bull because all I did was show the license plate and the fix it ticket to another cop and they signed it off with me changing nothing. The cop who signed it off did not believe me that i did not alter the license plate to get pass the fix it ticket LOL

My buddy Alfonso got popped Sat in Berryessa too. As if we need any more reason to despise the CHP.

I guess CHP backed off Sunday as we did a day ride there. We did see 2 sitting along the road, but didn't do anything. The MC cop even waved. Goes to show, there are some benefits of riding as slow as I do! [thumbsup]

They probably filled their quota on Saturday and got to enjoy a lazy day in the sun.

Like I've said before, if you leave the reflectors on, the goon that hits you swears they never saw you [bang]. But if you take the reflectors off, then the cops can spot you miles away ??? [bang].

Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't. :P

Makes me reconsider doing the tail chop... (which I still haven't done)
I didn't think cops really gave tickets/warnings for missing reflectors, etc.

You can just stick a reflector under the tail chop if you're worried.  Or take the fix-it ticket, stick a reflector on there and then get your ticket signed off.

Are you serious about the no relector!!?

Does anybody know what the legal specs are for turn signal size and separation distance?.

The cop warned me that fixing it and then removing them again, if caught a second time, would constitute a non compliance ticket that is a 1 point infraction.  OMG, they are getting nasty. Makes me think my time is limited with my "euro" headlight and no reflectors anywhere!

Thanks,
Coyote

These license plate bolts should also be enough keep you ticket-free:

Go for the chop! [thumbsup]

I put the reflector bolts on my license plate after getting pulled over for no reflector. The CHP guy was happy enough with the bolts. He didn't care about my integrated tail light. Of course, the next one may be unhappy with the bolts and the integrated tail light. I think it depends on their individual personalities and moods. I know my bike set up is taking a chance for a ticket.

I am going to add a little +123123 to F the CHP

I got a ticket two days ago for "failure to properly wear my seatbelt"

such make the beast with two backsing bullshit.  the guy was such an asshole about it too!  He asked me if thought I was a "rebel" because I was wearing my belt under my arm and not across my chest... If I was a rebel asshole I wouldn't even be wearing my seatbelt!

If you were a rebel, you wouldn't have even stopped when he lit you up. You would've flipped him off, then led him on a low-speed chase through Marin...in a white Bronco even :)

Yikes. I wear my seatbelt like that all the time. I know it isn't the "safest" way to wear it but I HATE the way the belt feels across my neck. I HATE it so much that it's actually a distraction to my driving. Good thing I don't drive a car too often. Motorcycles, bicycles, and unicycles are a much better choice of transportation.

I think that's been done, in a Ford F250, but not with good results...

Police arrested the suspect and identified him as Corbino. At the county jail, Corbino described his occupation as motorcycle racer, according to the booking log.

At least he didn't say AFM Motorcycle Racer.

re: the article

"Concentrated cannabis means the separated resin, whether crude or purified, obtained from marijuana." Health &  Safety Code 11006.5.

C'mon, journalist, be more specific. Don't just quote the police report. I want to know what kind of concentrated cannabis [laugh]

What's the code section on the ticket, Vin?  edit:    It's probably this http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27315.htm (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27315.htm)

make the beast with two backs him.  Show me how you weren't properly wearing your seatbelt.  Where is "proper" seatbelt use defined to include that it be over your chest and not under your arm?

Or, better yet, if he made a clerical mistake on the citation (like citing the wrong section of the Vehicle Code) you can get the ticket thrown out completely...regardless of interpretation.

he the code is 27315 (d) which only says "A person ( )2 shall not operate a motor vehicle on a highway unless that person and all passengers 16 years of age or over are properly restrained by a safety belt."

You are right in that the law doesn't define "properly".  He mentioned something about having to follow the manufacturers recommended seatbelt use as a basis for what proper is, but that isn't written in the Mandatory Seat Belt Law either.  I have some reservations fighting the ticket because of section (h)

"(h) Notwithstanding subdivision (a) of Section 42001, ( )1 a violation of subdivision (d), (e), or (f) is an infraction punishable by a fine of not more than twenty dollars ($20) for a first offense, and a fine of not more than fifty dollars ($50) for each subsequent offense. In lieu of the fine and any penalty assessment or court costs, the court, pursuant to Section 42005, may order that a person convicted of a first offense attend a school for traffic violators or ( )3 another court-approved program in which the proper use of safety belts is demonstrated."

I don't feel like paying court costs or going to traffic school so some douchebag can show me how to "properly" wear my seat belt
