Well I got my triples bored and will take them to the powder coater soon. While they are there, I want to change the oil in the SBK forks I will be installing. The SBK forks come off a 2002 996. What is the stock fork oil weight? I'm a big guy (290# with gear) and am thinking I might need switch to a thicker oil. I've been told the stock 996 springs may be OK for my weight, but since I had the springs in my stock forks changed to suit my weight, I can always pop those right in to the 996 forks if thickening up the oil is not enough. Any help is appreciated.
Wow - I got more traffic today on swine flu posts! I will just by some 10wt and see what happens.......
Have you tried your dealer?
try SHELL Advance Fork 7.5 or DONAX TA
I think you should call Race Tech or some other suspension specialist that is experience with those particular forks, and see what they recommend for spring rates and fork oil weight.

I had DucPond respring my bike with Racetech springs shortly after I bought it. I've talked to Racetech and other suspension gurus on this board and the general consensus is the heavier rate Racetech springs in my stock forks will work in the SBK forks. Will they be the right rate? Don't know until I try. Some that I talked to say the stock SBK springs, meant for the heavier 996, should be about right. If they aren't, it is a simple matter to pop the forks out and swap out the springs. What I didn't ask in these conversations was what weight oil is stock and what a recommended heavier weight might be. Thanks.
According to the info I've got, 996 forks came with 1.0 springs.
That's about as stiff a spring as you'll find.
Whether those are the springs that are in there or not.... did the PO give you any info on that?
I'd say start with 10wt oil, and see how you like it.

I have no idea what is in there - I'll try and find out. The ones I have in my current forks are .95 I think. Thanks for the input.
