Title: TO All Fellow Ducati Monster S4Rs Owners Post by: Modena on April 30, 2009, 07:55:16 PM Too All,
Fellow Ducati Monster S4Rs owners: I bought an new 2007 Ducati Monster S4Rs from an local dealer and the bike only as 17 miles on the bike. The bike sat in their warehouse while I made monthly pmts on the bike. Now, all an sudden the dealer calls me up to say while the were prepping the bike they seem to have found an puddle of oil under the bike and over all the engine that they NEVER saw before until now and they have to replace the valve cover gasket. *** Should I be very alarmed on why this has happened?...an would there be any other problems that I should be thinking about. I'm extremely concerned if I should request to get my money back from this company because I don't understand why all an sudden a bike with only 17 miles would cause this to happen. Thank you for your support and most importantly happy & safe riding !! ducatini@sbcglobal.net Title: Re: TO All Fellow Ducati Monster S4Rs Owners Post by: pennyrobber on May 01, 2009, 09:57:37 AM If the engine isn't running, no oil is being fed to the valves. Thus there shouldn't be a leak from the valve cover. Especially one that would leave a puddle of oil underneath a bike that is just sitting. Replacing a valve cover gasket is no big deal but it would be strange is that was the source of such a leak. It is not unheard of for a valve cover gasket to be damaged during install but again the leaking should only occur while the engine is running. If indeed that is the real problem, it will only take them like 5 minutes to replace the gasket. Either way it should be a warranty issue and shouldn't cost you a cent. If I were you I would have them show me on the bike the location of the leak and try to get something in writing just incase they did mess something up. There are always other dealerships.
