I recently purchased this shotgun brand new. I had to look high and low around me before I found one in stock. Paid list price but got a great deal on ammo. The place I buy from will usually wheel and deal a little but in this day and age they don't have to. Stuff is flying off the shelves. Anyway here are some pics....
It's kind of evil looking don't you think ?? It is a Remington 1100 Tac 4 shotgun. It is an autoloader that takes 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge shells. It hold 8. It has a removable choke system and came with the 3 most popular chokes.

This photo shows the large bolt operating handle. The red plug underneath the reciever is a hi viz shell follower. It allows you to easily see when you're out of ammo.

I know it's evil because it says this on the side.

This shows the size of the weapon to good effect. It's a pretty big shotgun. The AR is a carbine with a 16 inch overall barrel. The shotgun has a 22 inch barrel. It should shoot a nice pattern and be a very effective at everything from home defense to sporting clays.

And since this is a MC website.

Thanks for looking. 2009 has been very good to me. This was basically a anniversary present. 15 years yesterday!!
Looks cool, but how is a shotgun with a 22" barrel "tactical"?

It has an 8 shot tube. It has an oversized loading latch release. A high viz shell follower and fiber optic sights. It's also a registered zombie slaying machine. The length of the barrel has little to do with it. A cyclinder bore 870 with rifle sights on a 16 inch barrel might look more "tactical" but is far less useful. A 16" cylinder bore shotgun with 00 buck has a huge pattern at 20 yards. Think poster sized. This shotgun with a modified or full choke will put all the pellets in a paper plate at that range. Much more useful. If you have a 16 inch barrel shotgun you can only hold five or 6 because the mag tube will generally be only as long as the barrel.
So in a "tactical" (overused word thus the quotes) situation this shotgun offers accuracy and large magazine capacity over a much shorter shotgun. It does lose a little manueverability in close quarters but not alot. You can also use it for sporting clays, skeet, trap or whatever because it uses an interchangeable choke system. If you truly are in close quarters that's what carbines and pistols are for. ;D
It would also make a pretty good club. I thought I might need something for three gun matches and this looked like a good start. I can't use a pump gun that fast.

and short shotguns. ;), ever try to use .223 or .45acp to shoot out a lock? (well i havent, but i cant inmagine it working very well)
that thing does lok sweet though.

Good point...I do have a shorter barreled Mossberg 500 with a cyclinder bore. It's good for things that are....close. Recoils a tad harsh though.I imagine a .223 would do OK on a lock from an inch or so away. Good luck on taking out the hinges though.
I have a 8 shot "Defender" with the short barrel.
It is by Mossberg as well. The barrel is super short.
The down side it really is good for anything else but home protection.
But I bought it for $50 [thumbsup]

That's kinda what I was getting at. You mentioned before it would be good for home defense. I disagree, that's a lot to swing around in close quarters, which is what I would classify most homes...
I've got an 870 which I turned tactical and holds 6 shells.
If you need more than six 00 Buck..........then you've got the wrong gun for the situation.
That is what my M4 is for :)
Let me grab the camera and I will go take a few pictures of them.
My shorts are now moist. Thank you.
Here are the long guns

HK USP 45 Compact
Glock 21 with trijicons (I got my wife this for her birthday this year)
CZ 85 9mm (this is a bad ass gun. Thank you Ducatizzy for the recommendation)

Hopefully if you are in close quarters with a Carbine, you don't have any neighbors.............
Those 5.56 sounds will easily penetrate through several walls.
My shot gun and pistols are for my home defense.
The M4 is my "if shit hits the fan" gun

You can buy ammo to allay this concern.

Right, but from a legal and law standpoint, I'd rather take down an intruder with my shotgun.
I think it would be much more effective.
5.56 is such a high velocity round, I'd pump around 10 rounds into someone.
I think 00 buck to the chest will make a nice mess of an intruder
Then I will follow up with a slug round.
That's when you break out the M249 SAW and just cut the hinges out of the door ;D
When I was in Afghanistan in 2008-2009 I carried variants of the M500 Mossberg Shotgun, M249 SAW, and the M4 Carbine ( with and without the M203 Grenade launcher)
But nothing beats the sound of the M2 .50 Cal or the MK-19 belt-fed automatic grenade launcher [thumbsup]

Jebus guys, the word gun nut comes to mind. Or, ah, I mean aficionado. ;D
That is a bad ass shotgun. Close quarters or not, I'd say an excellent home defense weapon.

I prefer afficionado but have heard gun nut a few times. I have a safe bolted to the floor that pretty much full so i have a wide selection ;D !! The first thing I did when I got it home was sweep a few corners and actually move around my house a little with it. It looks really long but it's not so bad. It's going to be a fun gun for cheap shooting at the range, three gun practice or matches and general use. I really don't like the really short barreled shotguns as much because I cam't shoot them as well as something a little longer. My Mossy's 2 inches shorter but doesn't shoot nearly as well.

Chris, I think that this would be the best for getting around those close quarters that you refer to:

I dig it! Its finicky with the milsurp ammo, hoping that will be cured with more rounds down the pipe. Its got some serious heft which is helpful with that potent round. Recoil is boistrous but manageable. Its very accurate, even with me shooting it. The scope/carry handle I have on it is huge but I like to see the paper Im hitting at 200+. Best part is it takes FAL mags, both metric and inch. I bought 25 of them at $6 each in good to very good condition.

Sweet. How accurate are you finding it at longer ranges (500+)?
