Title: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 03, 2009, 11:17:53 AM Hey guys, met some of you.. hope to be able to come to more gathers. [drink]
Thought I would post up some pictures of my bike... recently had a bunch of stuff powder coated and now just got the forks vinyl'd. Gave it a quick bath, nothing special so it isn't fully clean... but I prefer to ride my bike versus bath it. how it started. (http://www.jackham.net/ducati/ducati_start.jpg) now after a bunch of things PC'd and vinyl on the forks. I also plan on taking some cool shots in the mtns this summer in interesting light (like the above photo). Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 04, 2009, 08:00:01 AM Very nice! [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Did Un!nk do the vinyl for you? I was going to... but the lady that used to do my vinyl when I raced cars called me and said she wanted to try it after all. Cost me virtually nothing and I think she did a pretty good job. But thanks, I did contact those guys and was planning on using them. Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Bick on May 04, 2009, 08:03:50 AM Can't wait to see it in person. [thumbsup]

Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: ducducgooseme on May 04, 2009, 09:44:09 AM tell us a bit about how you did the forks
Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 04, 2009, 10:36:17 AM tell us a bit about how you did the forks I didn't do them, but I sat around talking with my old vinyl lady as she put it on for me. Basically she had about a yard of flat black vinyl laying around. She cut sheets slightly bigger than the exposed section of fork. Put it on, used a propane torch to quickly flash the vinyl and stretch it onto the fork... repeat until it was all the way around. Cut excess off with an exacto. The seam is on the inside. The top and middle were easy. The lower has a flare, so she put a small strip on the larger bottom part, then pulled the vinyl over and cut on that seam between the 2 larger diameter parts at the bottom of the fork. Took about 1hr for someone experienced with vinyl, but she had never put vinyl on a fork before. She said she doesn't want to do it again. Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: tebok on May 05, 2009, 07:09:07 AM Classy upgrades. Aggreed, the darker the better.
Powder coated exhaust would add to the Darkster look Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: bucky on May 05, 2009, 03:10:59 PM Mucho improved, good job can't wait to see it in person.
Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 15, 2009, 06:11:20 AM Mucho improved, good job can't wait to see it in person. It is at Erico and forsale... I bought a new bike. Erico was great and gave me a killer deal on my trade in. My new bike should satisfy me for a long time. I really can't see myself getting bored with the power. sorry for the crappy cell pic, but once I get the bike setup and happy tags off I'll take some real photos. Was this right after I talked to you on KTM demo day? :D Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 15, 2009, 09:04:50 AM I went to look at one and a 1100 after the KTM demo... spent all day at moto dealers.
Yesterday I spent the majority of the day at Erico and now I'm english trash. Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Fresh Pants on May 15, 2009, 09:26:48 AM Nice.
Very cool. [thumbsup] Have fun on that, those triples look like a blast. Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Randimus Maximus on May 15, 2009, 05:30:01 PM Looks like it is already 'pre-dark(er)ed' for you!
Looks like fun, too! [thumbsup] Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 17, 2009, 02:06:42 PM haha.. and thanks.
Went for a good ride today to break in my tires, etc. That speed3 can really lean and the power delivery is so easy to control. Can't wait until I get the 600mile tune and can rev it more than 6000rpm. Bought it the 17th, already have 450miles. Photo from today, just outside Ward on Peak-to-Peak highway. He says that it is hard to keep the front end down. ;D
Have fun on that thing. Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: Spicoli on May 17, 2009, 07:36:11 PM A guy I work with has a triple. He says that it is hard to keep the front end down. ;D Have fun on that thing. The first night of riding it popped up on me. I wasn't leaning forward like I normally do though. I'm interested to see what happens after my 600 mile tune on friday. I'll be running the revs out to 10k instead of 6k. Took a passenger for a ride today. The speed3 is 10x more comfortable w/ a passenger than my 696 was. So comfortable that we were really leaning over and it was very easy to control. I'm very happy with my decision on this bike. Title: Re: my 696 dark(er) Post by: JasonV on July 25, 2009, 04:28:10 AM That is one sweet 696! That's exactly how I would like my 696 to look.
I don't suppose you are located in NYC or nearby as I'd love to have the person who did the vinyl to do mine. Also, who did your powdercoating? Exhausts, swingarm, handlebars, (did I miss anything) I assume were all the parts that had to be powdercoated. Was it expensive? |
