Title: buying new belts and other parts
Post by: Mash on May 04, 2009, 04:51:58 PM
I need to get a couple OEM maintenance parts for my bike.  Specifically, I need timing belts ( 737.4.021.1A ) and an exhaust gasket ( 0370.84.005 ).  I got the part numbers from the Ducati Spare Parts Catalogue for my bike.

I'm thinking CA Cycleworks for the belts, but don't know where, other than the dealer, I can get the gasket.  I tried commoto and the part number I entered isn't found.

Where do you guys buy your belts from?  What about that gasket?

i tried buying that gasket from chris too, no dough, i just looked through my stuff and happen to find a similar one, if you do a search for gaskets online you should be able to find one that will fit *if you lost yours u can get it from the other head to measure)

Your local dealer might have your gasket in stock, I've had good luck with my local dealer (Spectrum Motorsports). If you can't buy local, try Ducati Seattle, or Ducati Omaha.  Don't waste your time with Commonwealth.  I ordered a gasket from Commonwealth, they said it would ship to me in 4 or 5 days, I received it about 5 weeks later with no explanation or apology, despite the fact that I asked them about it several times while I was waiting.

when I swapped out my stock exhaust for headers, there wasn't a gasket on the horizontal cylinder.  I'm using the downpipe from the stock system, so I never took that off. Not sure I really want to either, looks like a bear to get to.

I guess I'll just measure the area carefully and stop by NAPA or something and see what I can find.

I'm pretty sure the horizontal cylinder is leaking because I can hear a slight tick-tick-tick from that area since the upgrade.  I've done a lot of wrenching on other things and I recognize the sound (I think).  My bike is also running a few degrees hotter than usual and I seem to recall that as a symptom also.

Is CA cycleworks a good place to get belts from?

yea, thats wherei get my blets from, just note that they sell belts individually for some reason, so if you buy 1, you only get 1, youll need two.

I'm also looking for timing belts.  I have a 2002 Monster 900 i.e. and the spare parts catalogue calls them out as 737.4.002.3A.  CA Cycleworks has all M900 belts grouped under part number 737.100.11A.  If this wasn't such an important component I wouldn't second guess Chris.  Can anyone chime in here with any experience or advice?

Exhaust gasket 037084005 is available from dealers, ~$3.
I wager you'll be hard pressed to find one elsewhere for less.

'02 M900 belt 73740023A has been superseded by 73710081A.
Not sure what the difference is from the 73710011A.

If it helps, we have been selling the 737.100.11A belts for over a year and have had no complaints or questions about the fitment. I understand wanting to get the correct parts for your bike, but Chris has been doing this for over 12 years; you can trust him!
