Title: Cam Seals
Post by: Porsche Monkey on May 05, 2009, 11:19:03 AM
Are the camshaft seals the same as the seal on the layshaft that drives the belts? 97 M900
Thanks, Jon

Sorry, not sure exactly what you mean but I just opened up my '95 m900 a few weeks ago to do seals so...

There are 3 seals: vertical cylinder (top), horizontal cylinder (right), and the one shared by both (middle). The top and right ones are the same size. The middle one is smaller. Hope that helps.

Be specific when ordering seals. I called Duc Seattle and asked for 1 originally and the girl that answered thought it was odd and said they usually replace both at the same time. I said, "Aren't there 3 seals?" and she said no.  [roll] It's true that only 2 of them are the same, but there are 3 seals. So I ended up getting 2 belts, 2 seals and 2 nuts. Ended up only replacing 2 belts, 1 seal, 2 nuts (vertical wasn't leaking so I left it alone and I had taken off the middle one but didn't have a seal for it but ended up using the nut to put it back together).  [roll]

That is exactly what I needed. Thanks.
